Punters' Pal - Kerrin McEvoy (Rosehill)

By Ray Hickson

Nothing but quotes from champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy on all nine of his rides for Golden Rose day at Rosehill Gardens.

Molten ($7 TAB) - R1 Nathan's Famous Hotdogs Handicap (1300m)

"He was a determined winner last time in a BM65 at Newcastle where he made all the running. This is another step up and there’s obviously good winning form in the race.

"But he felt as though he’d improved on Tuesday morning and he can take another step forward and run well.''

Darabad ($26 TAB) - R2 G3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m)

"He’s a horse I haven’t ridden and he hasn’t had many starts here. He’s been beaten decisively in his three Australian runs so he needs to improve. It’s a small field and hopefully 2400m will see an improvement.''

Don’t Give A Damn ($2.25 TAB) - R3 TAB Highway Handicap (1500m)

"He’s still quite raw but he looks the worthy favourite given his last run. It’s only his third start so I need to get him into the right rhythm stepping up to 1500m. He gave me a good feel the other day and only went down by a half head.

"Danny said he would have preferred 1400m last time so if that’s any indication it shouldn’t be an issue. He has the strong form line through that last race to suggest he will be very hard to beat.''

Up ‘N’ Rolling ($2.00 TAB) - R4 Ranvet Handicap (2000m)

"He was a dominant winner last time, he goes up 4kg which is some slight concern but he’s racing really well. He’s only had a couple of runs back so he still has fresh legs and he’s drawn barrier one.

"He’s going to get an energy saving run in the first part and it’s about taking the right avenues home.

"There doesn’t look to be a heap of pressure in the race so he could take up a handy spot without any issues.''

Washington Heights ($3.20 TAB) - R5 G3 Shannon Stakes (1500m)

"It was the steady run race the other day and we drew well so we were able to get a nice cover up. He’s meeting Dawn Wall better at the weights which is interesting so hopfully we can take advantage of that.

"It looks a nice race for him if we can get the right sort of run. He over raced the other day so I’m hoping they roll along at a nice tempo and that would help get him in a nice rhythm.''

Augustus ($11 TAB) - R6 G3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m)

"I rode him work on Tuesday morning and he seems to have pulled up well since his win. He’s meeting horses that have run in better races at this stage of their careers so he’ll have to step up to the mark after a maiden last time."

Formality wins the Furious Stakes - September 2

Formality ($19 TAB) - R7 G1 Golden Rose (1400m)

"It’s a tricky barrier (13) and it remains to be seen whether she enjoys an extra furlong. The plans aren’t in concrete yet but I’m leaning towards having an energy saving time through the first half.

"With those thoughts in mind I’m unsure whether I’d press forward into my normal role.

"I can see more pressure in this race so that might see me being a little more conservative. She’s only been winning by small margin but most notably she beat Alizee and Champagne Cuddles and it’s not a bad formline. She’s got a great ability to attack the line and she’s very genuine.''

Denmagic ($13 TAB) - R8 G2 Golden Pendant (1400m)

"She had a tough run there last time and she’s drawn a better barrier this time. She was very good first-up so hopefully she can bounce back to her best. With even luck she has a chance.''

Screamarr ($8.50 TAB) - R9 Tab.com.au Handicap (1400m)

"He’s coming off a good first-up win at Warwick Farm and has won second-up. He’s drawn a nice barrier and on the limit has to be an each-way chance.''
