Punter's Pal - Bjorn Baker (Rosehill Gardens)

By Ray Hickson

Bjorn Baker takes a handy team of eight horses to Rosehill Gardens on Saturday with a mix of promising youngsters, horses on the back up and winter mainstays.

Here's nothing but quotes from Bjorn on the chances of each of his runners. * Prices TAB Fixed Odds at Thursday 2pm.

Savoury ($5, Race 1 – St Johns Park Bowling Club 1400m)

“It was a very good win on debut. There’s no doubt it’s a big step up, he’s going 1100m to 1400m and maiden grade to Saturday grade. He’s well and looks great to me at the moment.

"I think barrier one is a big help for him, he should be able to jump and put himself where he’s comfortable. He’s a nice horse going forward, he has a lot of quality, I guess we’ll see how it plays out.''

Connemara ($5, Race 2 – Campbelltown Catholic Club 1200m)

"She’s going really well and I think the form has worked out pretty good from her runs. She gets in with no weight, she has a good gate and looks great. She probably got beaten by a better horse on the day (last start) but she is not out of it.''

Let It Pour ($9.50, Race 5 – Canterbury Hurlstone Park Rosebud 1100m)

"She’s a nice filly who has done everything well. I’m looking forward to her getting under way. We’ll take it one step at a time, physically she’s not quite there yet. If she can run top four or five we will go forward with confidence.''

Drachenfels ($5, Race 6 – Dooleys Handicap 1400m)

"It’s a good race for him, back on top of the track is the key. The back up is going to be interesting for him but his run last week, even though he didn’t win, I thought was a good run. We’ll see how the day plays out, have a look at any scratchings, and have a think about how we play the race.''

Missybeel ($12, Race 7 – Bankstown Sports Club 2000m)

"She has a bit of an awkward gate but she will roll forward, we’ll be positive with her. She didn’t get a cart into the race last week, I thought it was a good run.

"She didn’t win but she deserves to be right there. The 2000m is a bit of a question mark but she is on the back up and has no weight so I think fitness won’t be an issue.''

Prime Candidate ($7, Race 8 – Cabra Bowls 1200m)

"He’s a very good horse and only had the one trial going into that first-up run. If he has improved off that he will be very competitive.

"He seems bright and well but you don’t really know until you race again after such a long break. He is a quality horse, a good looker and his record is good so I think he is well placed.''

Irukandji ($21, Race 8 – Cabra Bowls 1200m)

"He’s had the ultimate gear change, we’ll ride him cold and try to get him to relax and finish off. I haven’t had him long but his trials have been good and he’s a readymade horse. If he can relax and finish his races off I’m hoping he has a good future.''

Oneness ($4, Race 9 – Doltone House Marconi 1500m)

"His run was okay last time but he’s in a perfect race for him. It’s more a midweek race than a Saturday race. He’s in good order and always runs consistently, we’ll be able to put him there without much pressure and hope for the best.''

We also asked Bjorn Baker for one horse follow going forward out of the meeting at his best winning chance.

Horse to follow – Savoury; Best winning chance - Prime Candidate.
