Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Tancred Stakes Day

Duais was the star of the show at Newcastle on Monday and while she was impressive to the eye the clock backed up her dominant display in the Group 1 KIA Tancred Stakes (2400m).

Josh Parr rode the four-year-old mare patiently and settled at the rear of the field. Once he clicked her up at the 600m, she took complete control and Punter's Intelligence showed she ran her final 600m sectional in 35.14.

That final 600m split was approximately 5-5.5 lengths faster than the next best, who was The Chosen One in 35.98.

The Edward Cummings-trained galloper is absolutely flying this preparation and will either contest the G1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) or the G1 Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m).

Runner-up Stockman was brave and kept trying to the line after making an early move at around the 900m mark, where he ran the race’s fastest 1000m-600m split in 24.51.

Forgiving of Spanish Mission who was rock solid in the market but struggled on the rain-affected ground and received a check/block at a critical stage.

We can make strong comparisons between the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (1850m) and the Group 2 Yarraman Park Tulloch Stakes (1850m) from the awkward start.

The Vinery went out at a slow pace, running their first 1250m in 81.80, approximately 14.5-15 lengths slower than the Tulloch in 79.44.

However, as expected, the Vinery sprinted home hard and, after a perfect ride from Hugh Bowman, Fangirl made amends for her shock defeat last start.

She ran the race’s fastest final 200m sectional race in 11.73 while Hinged tried hard and was game in defeat, beating the rest easily.

Expect improvement third/fourth up from Gypsy Goddess after having too much to do and making a long-wide sustained run when posting the quickest 600m split of the race in 34.78.

Yearning was another who just got too far back and ran the race’s fastest 400m-200m split in 11.24.

Character was strong winning the Tulloch after tracking into the race well with a well-timed ride by Tommy Berry.

Since the gelding operation, he has improved significantly and always puts himself in races by being positive early.

Sword Point was another brave run on the day where he had to bring the field up and chase a tearaway leader in a fast pace.

He was second-up off a break, and all indicators suggest he is ready to peak again next run.

The two-Derby flashing light runs were Regal Lion and Benaud.

Regal Lion ran the race’s fastest final 200m in 12.25 to hit the line hard for the astute NZ stable in Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman.

Benaud ran the race's quickest last 600m sectional in 35.32 and is ready to step up in trip.

The Doncaster Prelude (1500m) was another race run at a moderate pace.

Winner Mr Mozart had every chance but held the rest of the field and was strong on the line running the fastest last 200m of the race in 12.36.

Our Playboy settled in the inferior ground and loomed to win but peaked on his run and will improve third-up.

Kukeracha has returned well this preparation after being not suited and ran the race’s fastest last 600m in 35.66 while Brutality ran on well after getting too far back and ran the second quickest last 600m in 35.88.

He looks ready for his grand final, the Doncaster Mile, expect the blinkers to go on and all his peak figures have come on backups.

A quick mention of Promise Of Success who sprinted the fastest last 600m of the entire meeting in 34.52, and Kiku’s last 400m was in a sizzling split of 22.84.

Fastest Last 600m: Promise Of Success 34.52.
