High profile colt Storm Boy made a statement on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens after a dominant display to win the feature Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).
The Waterhouse & Bott galloper was heavily backed late in the trade, did it at both ends and produced a figure that will make him competitive in all his upcoming targets.
He led at a good-even speed, accelerated and extended his margin over the concluding stages with Punter's Intelligence clocking his overall time in 1:02.98, approximately two lengths quicker than the Benchmark 78 event over 1100m.
The clock backed up the three-year-old's late visual strength as he ran one of the meeting's fastest final 200m splits in 11.27.
He was back to near his best and can only improve off the platform he has set for this campaign.
Tropicus was an eye-catching run, and his effort had merit.
He was restrained from an awkward draw, got too far back in the run with the track pattern against, but made up significant ground in the straight.
Further, he ran some of the meeting's fastest final 600m/400m/200m splits in 32.82/21.84/11.10.
The lightly raced galloper will only improve from the experience and can settle closer from a more favourable draw next start.
Ceolwulf was well-ridden by James McDonald, but the gelding was impressive and won with style.
He travelled well throughout before McDonald put the four-year-old into the race between the 600-400m, running the race's equal fastest split for that section in 11.19.
Moreover, he hit the front early, but once asked for a superior effort, he immediately responded and bolted in, running 11.33 for his final 200m. He moved well, held his action nicely, and he can go on with it this prep.
Berkshire Shadow was luckless and had multiple factors against. He was disadvantaged by the pace/bias, blocked for a run for the majority of the straight, but still ran the race's quickest final 200m in 11.31.
The import is now in his second Australian prep and can only improve over further.
Autumn Glow is still learning, but she remains undefeated after scoring in the Group 3 Up And Coming (1300m).
After adjusting for the day, the filly didn't run a sharp overall time, but she found the line well, clocking 11.40 for her final 200m. All key indicators suggest she is now ready to step up in trip.
Iron Hawk was the obvious unlucky runner and should've finished much closer. His final 200m was a tick quicker than Autumn Glow in 11.40.
Unusual Legacy is in for a big campaign, and his first-up effort on Saturday in the Benchmark 78 event suggested he is ready to live up to expectations.
He wasn't suited over the 1500m and had too much to do, but he made late ground and recorded the race's quickest final 600m in 33.57. He is consistent, and watch for him on a big track.
Briasa remains undefeated, and he raced well to win the final event over 1100m.
The Hawkes-trained galloper went to a new level after showing adaptability in the run, but he wanted to find the line.
He ran the entire meeting's fastest final 600m in 32.81. The four-year-old can progress through the grades and is on an upwards ratings spiral.
Fastest last 600m: Briasa 32.81
