Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill Gardens 21st May

We saw a vast range of long priced winners at Rosehill on Saturday, and Madame Pommery started the trend with a dominant first-up victory in the Precise Fire Handicap (1200m).

Punter’s Intelligence recorded that she ran the fastest 1200m overall time of the day in 1:15:11.

Even after adjusting for the first use of the track, age, class and additional factors, this race rated highly relative to the whole meeting. Further, the decisive margins throughout confirmed the quality.

The Chris Waller trained galloper had every chance in the run but accelerated away from her rivals, running one of the fastest final 400m sectionals across the day in 23.91.

Her starting price is some query, but she has come back improved and one to follow on rain-affected ground.

The well-fancied stablemate Northern Beaches loomed to win, running the equal race quickest 400m-200m split in 11.62 but peaked on his run. He can bounce back on a drier track.

Philipsburg and Elusive Jewel had an exciting battle over the concluding stages, and they smashed the rest in the Schweppes Handicap (1500m).

French Bonnet led them up at a solid tempo running the first 900m in 56.92, which was approximately 11.5-12 lengths quicker than the Kia Handicap (1500m).

Although Philipsburg was run to suit, he had to travel in lane 1, which was inferior ground. Further, he was strong and ran his final 600m in 36.22.

Elusive Jewel is consistent as they come running another brave second after being shuffled back and having to make a long-wide sustained run. Her best piece of work was the 400m-200m split in 11.87.

The Kia Handicap was run at a very slow pace, and jockey Tyler Schiller gave Night Of Power a perfect ride stalking the speed to provide him with the last shot to win. He recorded one of the fastest last 200m sectionals of the entire meeting in 12.30.

Quintello was suited but never looked entirely comfortable in the going, and although Surf Dancer had all favours, he may be back to his best.

Arguably the run of the race was Solar Apex, who had too much to do. In addition, he ran the race’s fastest final 600m-200m split in 23.68 before peaking.

The four-year-old gelding has come back well after producing a career-high figure first-up and will be more suited over further distance or in a high-pressure race next start.

Lady Of Luxury and El Buena are two first-up performers that look suited over the coming winter months and are horses to follow.

Lady Of Luxury ran the entire meetings fastest final 600m/400m/200m sectionals in 35.66/23.39/12.06 whilst carrying a big weight in the Furphy Handicap (1200m).

El Buena loomed to win in the Bowermans Handicap (1200m) but just peaked on his run after getting got too far in a moderate tempo. He ran on well, posting one of the quickest final 400m splits of the entire meeting in 24.03.

Fastest Last 600m: Lady Of Luxury 35.66.
