Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill Gardens 13th August

Import Surefire has come back improved and kicked off his second Australian preparation with an impressive win in the Bankstown Sports Handicap (1400m).

The five-year-old ran fast time in a race that rated highly relative to the day, and Punter’s Intelligence recorded the sectional merit of his performance.

The race was run at a good-even pace after adjusting for age, class and additional factors, with Titanium Power running the first 800m in 49.02.

Additionally, he ran that split approximately 3-3.5 faster than the Midway Handicap (1400m), 4 lengths quicker than the Campbelltown Catholic Club Handicap (1400m) and 2.5 lengths faster than the ClubsNSW Handicap (1400m).

Although Surefire settled in lane one, a significant advantage on Saturday, he still had to make up considerable ground and produced slick closing splits. Further, he ran his final 600m/400m/200m in 33.86/22.40/11.36 and savaged the line in style.

The Chris Waller trained galloper is a progressive type and one to follow this preparation.

Stablemate No Compromise who was resuming, ran the second quickest final 600m sectional of the race in 34.14 and Arctic Thunder was solid over the final furlong in 11.76.

The Listed Rosebud (1100m) was run at a solid pace with Troach running the first 500m in 30.67, and he was honest in defeat holding onto third place.

Zoukerino was perfectly ridden and surged through a gap once it appeared to run the races equal fastest final 200m in 11.59.

The talking point of the race was Spacewalk, who looked like the winner but laid in drastically over the concluding stages, which cost him victory.

In addition, he was the run of the race after having the bias against him and still sprinted the quickest 400m-200m split of the entire meeting in 10.86.

Forgive Sebonack, who didn’t have much luck but still ran the race’s equal fastest final 200m in 11.59 and Kibou will be suited over further distance.

Katalin was well backed in the Benchmark 88 (1200m) but had too much to do first-up.

Moreover, she had the pace/bias against her but still hit the line hard, running one of the quickest final 400m sectionals of the day in 22.55.

She will be hard to beat in a similar grade next start, especially on dry ground where she produces all her peak figures.

Dalchini, who comes out of that same race, is set to peak third-up and ran 11.00 between the 400m-200m mark.

Shades Of Rose may have had all the favours, but the clock backed up her dominant win in the BM 78 (1100m) event.

Further, she ran an overall time of 1:04.98, approximately 3 lengths superior to the Rosebud.

The four-year-old mare is above benchmark grade and is on an upwards ratings spiral this prep.

Quick Tempo ran the fastest final 600m of the meeting again in 33.31 but missed the start badly. He is in form but is racing without luck.

A quick mention of the Waterhouse/Bott trained duo Major Beel and Stonecoat, whose runs had merit in the Dooleys BM 72 (1300m).

Fastest last 600m: Quick Tempo 33.31
