If I’mintowin happens to make the field for the Group 2 $2 million The Ingham this weekend over the Randwick mile, and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott want to back him, his presence would make an intriguing addition to the race.
That’s because he’s simply flying and it was on show in his demolition at Rosehill last Saturday.
Punter’s Intelligence sectional data displays his comprehensive performance nicely – he did all the work, on what was a heavy 10 by this stage, early over the 1400m running his first 400m in 25.59 to establish the lead.
Then, as Tim Clark is so good at, he went into control mode backing off to the tune of over three lengths before slowly upping the ante. Hippo put the foot down from the 800m and forced the others to chase.
His last 200m of 12.22 was easily the fastest of the race, to the tune of a length and he managed the race’s fastest last 600m of 35.46.
He’s weighted on 54kg in The Ingham, a mile holds no fears, and he’d give some cheek. At the same time, if connections decide to skip then whatever his next target is would be at his mercy.
The win in the opening race by Private Harry underlined his potential as he ticked an important box on his way to a bigger target but the run of Unleeshing shouldn’t be overlooked going forward.
This filly is the winner of a Mudgee maiden but her two runs back at Rosehill have been pointers to a city win not being far away.
While Private Harry had her measure, Unleeshing recorded the day’s fastest last 600m of 34.06 – albeit on the best ground – and the fastest last 200m of34.06. She simply bumped into one better on the day but her turn is near.
Lulumon is still early in her preparation and, especially if she can strike another soft or worse track, there could be more wins in store for her.
And the horse she ran down, Drift Net, is a handy measuring stick. Lulumon finished three lengths shy of the Godolphin mare when they last met in June and while a weight swing was in her favour but the tempo wasn’t.
On a heavy 10 Drift Net ran the first 700m in 43.34, compare that to Midnight Opal in the last (on a heavy 8) who ran 42.79 for his first 700m – more than three lengths faster.
The mares sprinted home much quicker, with Lulmon’s last 600m in 35.82 while Midnight Opal clocked 36.29. That says Drift Net had her chance and Lulumon was far too strong, she’s come back better and may well go on with it.
There was some merit in the run of Coella in the TAB Highway, the race run in trying conditions and the track was downgraded to a heavy 10 soon after, to finish fifth.
After being held up early in the straight she managed the second fastest last 600m of 37.90 in the race and was the only horse to break 13 seconds for her last 200m (12.86).
Fastest last 600m: Unleeshing 34.06
