Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill 3rd August

Could the gelding operation be the making of Williamsburg after he did it at both ends to score at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday?

The Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained galloper was ridden up from a wide gate to lead at a genuine pace, and Punter's Intelligence recorded that he ran the first 900m in 53.88.

He responded well under pressure between the 400m and 200m, running 11.30 for that split, and maintained a solid finishing speed to the line.

Further, his overall time of 1:28.41 was approximately 17.5 lengths quicker than the 3&4YO Becnhamrk 72 event over 1500m.

It was a clear advantage to settle fence in run throughout the meeting, and the runs of both Riyazan and Lion's Roar had merit.

Riyazan was 42 days between runs, settled in lane 2 and loomed to win after accelerating but peaked over the concluding stages. He ran 34.09 for his final 600m.

Lion's Roar had too much to do but still ran the race's fastest final 200m in 11.37. He was first up and can only bounce off that effort.

Although Medatsu, as previously referenced, ran slow time, there was plenty of merit in the back end of the clock.

He wasn't suited to the race shape, had to make a long-sustained run and clocked the meeting's fastest final 600m in 33.25.

The Chris Waller-trained runner will only improve over more ground and looks set for a strong preparation.

Until Valhalla was checked/blocked at a critical stage, having her momentum haltered, but once clear, she hit the line hard. The mare ran the entire meeting's fastest final 200m in 10.96.

Peace Officer was back in distance, but was a flashing light run in the Midway Handicap (1400m).

He ran a powerful final 400m in 22.75. Follow him on dry ground, where he produces his peak figures.

Vega Magnifico was a sneaky go throughout betting, and although well beaten, his effort was better than the form guide reads.

The six-year-old chased a very fast tempo throughout and battled on well to hold fourth, running 12.84 for his final 200m.

He was the only on-pace runner to stick on while all the others faded.

Import Up And Under was one of the more hidden runs of the day in the final event, and he was entering his second Australian preparation under the guidance of trainer Chris Waller.

He was restrained from a wide draw, had the pace against, and had no luck whatsoever in the straight.

He arguably should've won, and even with all the interference, he still ran the race's fastest final 600m in 34.02.

Fastest last 600m: Medatsu 33.25
