Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill 29th January

The return of Godolphin star Anamoe had everyone talking and they should be saying the colt made a spectacular return, despite being beaten, in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m).

On a day when the circle races particularly were dominated by the on pacers Anamoe has clocked a race best 33.29 for his last 600m (via Punter’s Intelligence) including a 10.89 from the 400m-200m and 11.34 for her last 200m – both best of the race.

His last 600m was over a length quicker than the next best, which was runner-up Forbidden Love (33.48) who has run very well in her own right with a last 200m of 11.39.

Obviously Anamoe will relish an increase in distance in the lead up to the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) third-up and this was about as good as he could run under the circumstances.

Tim Clark’s front-running nous is well known and he rode the winner Overpass to perfection. After establishing the lad he was able to back off between the 800m and 600m, and the field backed off with him which was key to him getting home.

He ran 11.43 (800m-600m) then 11.11 (600m-400m) and 10.99 (400m-200m) and from there it was always going to be virtually impossible to run him down.

The two-year-olds made for fascinating viewing and in the end it was the fillies that were supreme from a time perspective.

Queen Of The Ball was able to get control quite easily in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) running her first 500m in 30.44 before dashing home in 32.92 for her last 600m.

Among that time was the fastest 400m-200m of the entire meeting of 10.61 so her turn of foot there should be noted.

The runner-up Revolutionary Miss clocked the race best last 600m of 32.87 while Ojai, who finished fifth, wasn’t disgraced running 32.91 for her final 600m.

The fillies ran 1:03.53 which was over two lengths faster than Best Of Bordeaux’s 1:03.91 in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m).

Interestingly, the boys were quite faster in the first half with their first 500m run in 30.14 (just under two lengths faster). In the end the winner had plenty on his rivals and scooted home his last 200m in 11.37 (over a length and a half faster).

There were two 1500m Benchmark races and they couldn’t have been run differently.

In the Chandon Handicap, a Benchmark 72, Centimental led all the way in 1:28.42 and that time was seven lengths faster than the Ned Whisky Handicap, Benchmark 88, won by Wairere Falls.

So slowly did they go in the latter race the first 800m of 44.52 was over 12 lengths slower than Centimental who ran 42.43 so it’s no surprise there were some pretty quick final sectionals.

O’Mudgee posted the meeting’s fastest last 600m, which is saying something about the tempo coming out of a 1500m race, of 32.78 and the winner Wairere Falls wasn’t far behind with 32.85.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Benchmark 88 Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1200m) was run 0.10 seconds quicker than the Expressway and Rule Of Law showed he can run a strong 1200m.

He posted 10.90 from the 400m-200m as he challenged The Bopper and ran his last 200m in 11.69 which was only a length slower than the race best.

Fastest last 600m: O’Mudgee 32.78
