Waterford extended his fantastic Rosehill 1500m record, and he wore down leader Iknowastar in an exciting finish to score in the Vale Lohnro Handicap at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
The market was spot on, with Waterford being heavily backed throughout the week, and he started favourite on the tote.
Jockey Nash Rawiller rode him perfectly, letting the gelding travel into the race before requiring a superior effort.
Further, when asked, he picked up and surged to the line over the final 200m. Punter's Intelligence recorded that he ran 11.54 for that section.
Stick with Iknowastar, who was brave in defeat after leading at a very fast pace. He ran his first 700m in 53.80, approximately 16.5 lengths quicker than the Benchmark 78 event over 1500m for that section.
Grebeni was a flashing light run after having too much to do. He was restrained from a wide draw, got too far back, and ran the race's fastest final 600m in 33.70. Watch for him to improve sharply second-up.
Martini Mumma is on an upwards ratings spiral, and she produced a career peak figure in the TAB Highway (1100m).
The lightly raced improver added another string to her bow, showing she could take a sit and settle in behind the speed.
She had every chance in the run, but when presented in the straight, she immediately accelerated, showed a change of speed, and extended away from her rivals over the final furlong.
The filly clocked a slick 11.24 for her final 200m, went through the line full of energy and pricked her ears on the line.
The Matthew Dale-trained runner will likely jump sharply in grade in her next start and contest the Listed Denises Joy 1100m event over the Scone carnival.
Ruby Flyer carried the equal top weight after the claim in the Benchmark 78 event over 1500m, and his effort had sectional merit.
He wasn't suited to the sit/sprint race shape, but he kept trying to the line and ran the fourth fastest final 200m split of the meeting in 11.02. He's ready to break through for a win in this campaign.
Import Unusual Legacy, coming through the same race, was entering his second Australian preparation under trainer Chris Waller's guidance. His effort was extremely encouraging after having multiple excuses.
He wasn't suited to the pace of the race, was checked/blocked at critical stages and forced back into the inferior ground.
To his credit, he picked up well, and his last few bounds were strong to the line. He clocked the seventh fastest final 200m split of the meeting and will undoubtedly improve off this effort over more ground.
Ostraka was outstanding in defeat in the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1200m and arguably one of the day's runs.
He always faced the breeze in a very fast tempo, hit the front too soon, and, although tiring late, ran 11.96 for his final 200m.
All the other on-pace runners faded badly, adding a bonus to his performance. Follow him second-up with confidence.
Two hidden sectional performers out of the meeting were Anagain and Fox Fighter.
Anagain had the blinkers back on, and she just got too far back in a slowly run race. She ran home hard, clocking the meeting's fastest final 600m/400m/200m splits in 32.81/21.53/10.91.
Fox Fighter was resuming and restrained back to last, and he got too far out of his ground. He ran the race's fastest closing sectionals and clocked the meeting's third-fastest final 600m split in 33.02. His historical profile suggests he'll improve significantly second-up.
Fastest last 600m: Anagain 32.81
