Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill 13th January

Naval College was visually impressive, winning the Listed January Cup (2000m) on Saturday, and the clock backed up his dominant performance.

The import smashed the Rosehill 2000m record previously held by champion gallopers Octagonal/Danewin by approximately 5.5 lengths, and Punter's Intelligence recorded the sectional merit.

The race was run at a very fast tempo, with Baby Rider running the first 1400m in 1:23.59 before upping the tempo around the 650m mark and getting the rest of the field chasing a long way out.

Jockey Jett Stanley, who rode his first stakes winner, let him travel well throughout, and when he asked for a superior effort, the gelding sprinted the race's second-fastest 400-200m split in 11.66.

Further, he maintained a solid finishing speed to the line, clocking 12.07 for his final 200m, which was a strong effort after absorbing the tempo.

He is on an upwards ratings spiral, and all key indicators suggest a rise to 2400m now looks ideal.

Lord Ardmore was the flashing light run, and he ran his final 600m in 34.71, approximately 2.5 lengths quicker than the race's next best. He was only second-up and will improve.

A quick mention of Riyazan, who always faced the breeze and stuck on ok.

High Blue Sea returned off a 402-day break in the Benchmark 72 event, won with style, recording 1:15.50 for his overall time, and wasn't ridden out. Moreover, his time was only 0.05 seconds behind the Benchmark 100 race won by Rubamos.

Gallant Star had excuses being checked/blocked at a critical stage and was forced back into the inferior ground. Once picking back up, he ran a sharp final furlong in 11.51. He's right on target for the upcoming 2024 Country Championship series.

King Of Dubai had no luck after racing wide throughout and had to exert too much energy between the 800m-200m in 33.34.

Union Army bounced back into the winner's stall in the Benchamrk 78 event over 1200m, and he showed an electric turn of foot. The Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou runner had the race shape against but built into the race well and savaged the line.

He clocked the meetings quickest 600m/400m/200m splits in 32.72/21.67/10.89. The four-year-old can go on with it now at optimal fitness, and a rise in distance is no issue.

Pereille was rock solid in the trade, was an honest return after slight excuses, and ran a strong 600m-200m sectional in 22.09. Watch for him to improve sharply second-up.

So Good So Cool had to give them weight but tried hard into third and ran the race fastest 400m-200m split in 10.77.

Outback Action recorded the race fastest 600m-400m in 10.96 but peaked on his run after having a long time off.

Penthouse used her key asset of speed and ran her rivals ragged to win the Class 3 TAB Highway (1200m).

The hidden run of the race was Syrian Star, who was resuming off a 245-day break but wasn't suited to the distance.

Further, she was slow out and had too much to do but ran on hard into sixth, recording the meeting's third-fastest final 600m sectional in 33.06. Follow her over more ground and with a more positive race setup.

A quick mention of Mrs Chrissie, who was brave in defeat after always facing the breeze and holding on for second in the Chandon Handicap over 1200m.

Fastest last 600m: Union Army 32.72
