Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Randwick Guineas Day

The Group 1 WFA Canterbury Stakes (1300m) produced a thrilling finish, and Artorius stormed home to claim his rivals over the concluding stages.

Punter's Intelligence recorded the race was run at a good-even tempo, with leader Electric Girl clocking 41.88 for the first 700m, and she was solid racing in the inferior ground.

Jockey Zac Purton rode Artorius with real intent early and kept his mind on the job throughout.

Further, he built momentum coming into the home straight, and the four-year-old surged to the line clocking one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting in 11.23.

It had been 741 days between wins, but the Anthony & Sam Freedman galloper can go on with it now.

NZ mare Imperatriz raced well and looked like the winner after accelerating strongly between the 400m-200m in 10.92.

She was gallant in defeat and will only benefit from the overseas race experience.

Cascadian found the line well first up and clocked 33.65 for his final 600m. He will be fitter and suited over more distance next start.

The hidden run of the race was Kirwan's Lane, who got too far back and had to make a long-wide sustained run.

The John O'Shea galloper clocked the race's quickest 600m-200m split in 22.12 and maintained a solid finishing speed to the line.

Watch for him back under handicap conditions; he has a fantastic second-up record/profile.

Communist excelled being ridden with cover and won the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) with ease.

The gelding settled midfield, loomed up to the leaders in the straight, and put his rivals away dominantly. He clocked 12.02 for his final 200m, the race's fastest.

Aft Cabin, although performing below market expectations, he ran on well and ran the race's quickest final 600m in 34.79.

Williamsburg is ticking over ok, and Manzoice got warm late and posted 12.19 for his final 200m. He has come back well and is on track to the Derby.

Eduardo looked to have pinched the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) after being well-rated out in front by Nash Rawiller.

The nine-year-old led at a slow pace and was just nabbed on the line by Passive Aggressive, who went to a new level producing a career peak figure.

The mare wanted to find the line and ran the third-fastest final 200m in 11.23.

Arguably the run of the day was defending TAB Everest champion Giga Kick, who was enormous in defeat.

Moreover, he was checked significantly at the start, had the pace/bias against him, and had too much to do over 1000m.

To his credit, even after all those factors against him, he still came out to win the race and attacked the line running the meeting's quickest 600m/400m/200m splits in 32.33/21.47/11.08.

He will head to the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes and be hard to beat.

The Bopper and Key Largo ran well under the WFA conditions and will be suited back to a handicap.

It's worth noting Sacred Satono who ran the races fastest 800m-400m split in 21.57 and will be suited back to his own age.

Cylinder earned Golden Slipper favouritism after a strong display in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).

He clocked a slick overall time in 1:09.70 which was approximately 1.5-2 lengths quicker than the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200) and 1 length faster than the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m).

To add further merit to his performance, the race sizzled home the fastest final 600m split when directly compared against the other 1200m events. Additionally, the big gap to the third confirmed the quality of the race.

The Godolphin galloper showed a sharp turn of foot and clocked one of the quickest 400m-200m splits in 10.93. He brings the best recent figure of all two-year-olds and will be a force to be reckoned with next start.

Red Resistance was 35 days between and was honest in defeat.

Cafe Millenium was well beaten but ran the second-fastest final 600m of the race in 34.09. He will be suited to a more high-pressure event and extra distance.

Although Learning To Fly ran a slower time when winning the Reisling Stakes, she was still brave under the circumstances and will be better when ridden with cover.

Fastest last 600m: Giga Kick 32.33
