Riodini deserves all honours after a gallant effort to win The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday, which produced an exciting finish.
The Waterhouse & Bott galloper raced wide without cover throughout, responded well under pressure and kept finding when challenged over the concluding stages.
The race was run at a genuine tempo, and Punter’s Intelligence recorded leader Wild Planet ran the first 1000m in 58.13, which was approximately seven lengths faster than the BM 88 Handicap (1600m).
Riodini ran a solid final 600m split in 34.93 and is scheduled to contest The Ingham (1600m) in a few weeks at Royal Randwick.
The locally trained Hope In Your Heart lost momentum at a critical stage when checked significantly, but to her credit, she picked herself up and closed off hard.
Further, she ran the fastest final 200m split of the race in 12.00. The underrated four-year-old has proven she is a top-line mare and is in career-best form.
Brutality had too much to do and was just a tick behind the equal fastest final 600m sectional of the race in 34.64.
The two hidden runs of the race were Wild Planet and Sky Lab, who are both set to peak next start.
Wild Planet was brave, sticking on for fourth as it was a hard day to lead and win due to the strength of the wind.
Sky Lab is back to his best and ran the second-fastest final 200m split of the race in 12.03 whilst racing in the inferior ground.
Import Nugget, who stamped himself as a future prospect, is well above benchmark grade and has a fantastic record.
The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace galloper put his rivals away in a matter of strides, and the clock backed up the visual dominance with him sprinting 10.84 between the 400m-200m.
He will only improve and follow on dry tracks.
Bullfinch had no luck and lost all momentum at a critical stage but once he balanced up his last few bounds and work past the post had merit.
Moreover, even with all that interference, he clocked the third fastest 600m of the race in 34.78 and is ready to peak fourth-up.
There were some slick sectionals recorded in the inaugural The Warra (1000m), and Dragonstone was one of the flashing light runs of the day.
He clocked the meeting’s fastest final 600m/400m/200m splits in 32.34/21.41/10.96.
Key Largo was strong, running into second place after having the pace/bias against and ran 10.51 for his 400m-200m split.
On The Lead ran the second-fastest 600m split of the race in 32.45 and excels on dry tracks.
It’s worth noting Sacrimony, who was first-up in the BM78 1000m event, and he recorded the second fastest final 600m split of the day in 32.43.
Fastest last 600m: Dragonstone 32.34
