Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Golden Rose Day

"The late attack, diving, I think he got there" were the words used by race caller Darren Flindell to describe Militarize's late surge to win the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The race was run at a genuine tempo, with Punter's Intelligence recording leader Snapback running the first 800m in 47.88, approximately 7 lengths faster than the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) and 7.5 lengths quicker than the Benchmark 88 event over 1400m for that section.

The clock backed up the now three-time Group 1 winner Militarize's visual late strength, with the colt recording one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting in 11.18.

He picked up incredibly well over the concluding stages to savage the line and can only improve over more ground.

Runner-up Encap had every chance but was honest and tried hard.

Cylinder was brave in defeat after being posted three-wide out on a limb throughout.

To put that into perspective, the Godolphin galloper covered an extra 5.5m relative to the eventual winner.

Further, even after a tough run-in transit, he still ran the third-fastest final 600m of the race in 33.76.

King Colorado was heavily backed, and his run had sectional merit. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace trained galloper ran the race's fastest 800m-200m split in 33.59 before peaking on his run. He will be fitter for that effort and is suited over more ground.

Forgive Shinzo, who was found to be lame in a post-race veterinary inspection.

The Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) was one of the main talking points from Saturday and lightly raced galloper Ozzmosis put his hand up for a potential TAB Everest slot.

The three-year-old sat outside the leader in a solid tempo and maintained a strong sprint to the line, clocking 22.13 for his final 400m. He has proven he can absorb pressure and still have the ability to accelerate.

Celestial Legend was an eye-catching return, and he loomed into the race well before having his momentum haltered at the furlong pole.

He reeled off a slick 32.85 for his final 600m, and even after having that interference, he picked himself up and hit the line hard. Moreover, he is suited over more ground and is definitely one to follow this campaign.

Barber had to carry the top weight under the race conditions and raced well, recording one of the fastest final 600m splits of the meeting in 32.81.

A quick mention of Kristilli, who ran the race's quickest final 200m in 11.05.

Espiona is flying this preparation, and she was dominant, winning the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m).

The Chris Waller galloper backed up her first-up run with another impressive sectional performance.

She had every chance in the run but travelled well into it and put the race away with a sharp turn of foot. Further, she ran 32.61 for her final 600m, the meeting's quickest final section.

Atishu is screaming for more ground and is ready to peak third-up. The mare clocked the race quickest 400m-200m in 10.64.

It's worth noting some other sectional stars, including Waterford, who had too much to do in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m). The now gelding ran a slick 600m-200m split in 21.50 and maintained a solid finishing speed to the line.

Lion's Roar comes through the same race, and after having excuses in the run, he balanced up and hit the line hard, running the entire meeting's fastest final 200m in 11.08.

Fastest last 600m: Espiona 32.61
