Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Golden Rose Day

Jacquinot was outstanding winning the Group 1 Chandon Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) and showed an electric turn of foot to score.

Punter’s intelligence recorded that the colt was still 15 meters off the lead at the 300m mark before showing a burst of acceleration.

Further, he savaged the line and clocked some of the fastest closing 400m/200m splits of the entire meeting in 22.16/11.18.

The race was run at a solid tempo with Zou Tiger running the first 800m in 48.13 which was approximately three lengths quicker than the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m).

In addition, the race rated highly relative to the day, even after adjustments and the margins confirmed the quality.

The Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) runner can sprint off slow/fast tempos, continue to follow him throughout this prep.

In Secret was heavily backed into a clear outright $2.30 favourite, and she was brave in defeat, beating the rest easily.

The Godolphin galloper travelled in lane 1 which was a disadvantage on Saturday, but still sprinted a strong 22.76 for her final 400m.

The hidden run relative to her finishing position was Fireburn, who just had too much to and her run was full of merit.

The Gary Portelli trained galloper was restrained from a wide-draw and had the pace/bias against.

Further, she had to make her run through the inferior ground but still clocked one of the quickest 400m-200m splits of the meeting in 10.88 and maintained a strong finishing speed to the line.

She is ready to win third-up and her sectional/ratings profile supports this.

As referenced above, the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) was run at a moderate pace.

Winner Nimalee sat outside the leader Expat and although being suited she was courageous to fight off late challengers.

Espiona got too far back and had to make a long-wide sustained run in the big field. Moreover, she found the line well and ran the fastest final 200m sectional of the race in 11.34.

The Chris Waller trained galloper is still immature and is screaming out for a soft gate where she can get a smother.

Startantes clocked the race quickest 400m-200m in 10.78 and then was chopped out at a critical stage.

The four-year-old should’ve finished much closer, and there is an argument to say she should’ve won.

The final feature race was the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) which was run at a farcical tempo.

Ellsberg ran the first 700m in 55.82, approximately three lengths slower than the TAB Highway (1500m).

Jockey Regan Bayliss asked victor Surf Dancer for a superior effort at the 400m mark and gave those chasing little chance of catching him. Additionally, he ran that final split in 22.23.

Old Flame was solid into second place running the race quickest final 200m in 11.12 and Atishu is ready to peak third-up after a wide run.

Dr Drill returned well after having the pace/bias against. He ran one of the fastest final 600m sectionals of the meeting in 33.76.

It’s worth noting other key sectional performers from Saturday, and the Chris Waller trained Hameron had no luck in the 1900m Benchmark 88 event.

The five-year-old had multiple excuses and was checked/blocked at critical stages. However, to his credit, he still ran one of the quickest final 600m splits of the day in 33.76.

Economics produced a career peak figure first-up in the Heritage Stakes (1100m) and set a strong platform for his campaign. He sprinted a slick 10.82 between the 400m-200m.

Watch for Hawaii Five Oh over a further distance and Opal Ridge continues to race well.

Fastest last 600m: Economics 33.41
