Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Festival Stakes Day

Private Eye was back to his best at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and utterly dominant in the feature Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m).

The gelding relished getting back out it in trip and was given a positive ride out of the gates by Nash Rawiller.

He always faced the breeze in an even tempo and showed a sharp turn of foot in the straight before extending his winning margin of the final furlong.

Punter's intelligence recorded that he ran the meeting's ninth fastest final 200m split in 11.58.

Runner-up Robusto was honest in defeat, and Xidaki flashed home to run the race's equal-fastest final 600m in 34.60 after covering the most ground.

Debutant The Playwright was extremely brave, winning the opening event after leading at a fast pace and fighting off the late challengers.

She ran the first 500m in 29.92 and was given no peace throughout but slipped away off the turn, running 11.57 between the 400m-200m.

Icarian Dream was a flashing light run after being checked/blocked at a critical stage, but once clear, she hit the line hard, recording 23.24 for her final 400m.

Lightly raced galloper Cambar knuckled down hard late to score in the TAB Highway (1100m), running 11.83 for his final 200m, but Hold was one of the hidden runs of the meeting.

She was resuming from a 131-day break, and although getting too far back, she savaged the line, clocking the meeting's second-fastest final 600m in 33.77.

Spiritchaser's effort had merit after always being posted three-wide out on a limb and looked the winner before tiring late. She covered the most ground, 1106.8m, and watch for her next start.

Tom Sherry rated Eagles Nest perfectly out in front, leading at a very slow pace and the mare conserved energy throughout.

She kept picking up to the line and ran the race's equal fastest final 200m in 11.41.

In Flight was a drifter in the betting, and although outpaced when the sprint went on, she balanced up over the final 200m and hit the line.

She ran 11.41 for her final furlong, will be fitter for that effort and is a consistent type.

Favourite Pereille had to make his run through the inferior ground, running the race's second-fastest final 600m before peaking on his run late.

A quick mention of Gerringong from Friday night's meeting at Canterbury.

She had to overcome difficulties in the straight, and once clear, she surged to the line, running the meeting quickest final 200m in 11.18.

The filly is a nice type with key attributes and will only improve with time.
