Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Chipping Norton Stakes Day

"I've been saying it a lot of my life, three four pairs back… explosive."

Jockey James McDonald used those words to explain the tactical brilliance of Anamoe and one of his most impressive victories to date.

The Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) was run at a strong tempo with Knight's Order leading, and Punter's Intelligence recorded he ran the first 1000m in 59.72.

The star four-year-old, Anamoe, was uncharacteristically slow out and settled midfield throughout transit.

However, he conserved energy throughout the run, and when asked for an effort, he accelerated hard.

Further, he put his rivals away in style, running the race's fastest 400m-200m split in 11.03, and then maintained a solid finishing speed to the line.

The Godolphin galloper has now won eight Group 1's and will be hard to beat wherever he lines up in Sydney or overseas this campaign.

Mo'unga was extremely brave in defeat after sitting outside the leader at a genuine pace, and he kept trying hard to the line running his final 200m in 12.09.

To further the merit of his performance, the other on-pace runners were well beaten, and he is ready to peak next start over more distance.

One of the eye-catching runs of the race was the return of Montefilia, who hit the line well and ran the race's quickest final 600m in 34.19.

Fangirl was honest again after being forced into the inferior ground, and Laws Of Indices had excuses.

The Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) produced a thrilling finish with multiple standout sectional performances.

Sunshine In Paris went to a new level and has now won a Group 1 in her first preparation.

Ryan Maloney patiently rode the filly, and once clear over the final furlong, she savaged the line and clocked the meeting's quickest final 200m in 11.51 to score.

She is a lightly raced improver on an upwards ratings spiral and excels when ridden cold.

Ruthless Dame travelled wide without cover the entire trip and covered an extra 3.9m more than the eventual winner.

Even after excuses, she ran the third fastest final 600m of the race in 34.30. As a result, she can now step out to 1600m with confidence.

The well-fancied In Secret became a victim of circumstances after jockey Hugh Bowman looked to make a winning move before the final turn, but the run was quickly closed.

Moreover, she was blocked, sprinted through the worst ground, and was just beaten on the line.

Zougotcha had to give her rivals a fitness edge, and she raced slightly fresh first-up.

She never shirked her task to the line and ran 11.80 for her final 200m and will derive an immense benefit from the run.

Although well beaten, it's worth noting Sheeza Belter, who ran the race's quickest final 400m in 22.36.

Hope In Your Heart returned in style and won the Group 2 Guy Walter Proven Thoroughbreds Stakes (1400m) with ease.

She was awkwardly placed coming into the final straight, but once a gap appeared, she burst through it, running a slick 10.98 for her 400m-200m split.

Additionally, she clocked one of the fastest final 600m sectionals of the meeting in 34.07, and she will be a force to be reckoned with this autumn.

The hidden run of the race was Yearning, who arguably should've fought out the finish.

She had no luck for the majority of the straight and still clocked one of the quickest final 200m sectionals of the day in 11.66, even with interference.

The TAB Highway (1000m) was an interesting talking point, with Mojo Magic remaining unbeaten after another dominant win.

She was suited in the run but showed a sharp turn of foot, and the clock supported the visual brilliance.

Her final 400m was run in 23.29, she is progressive and one to follow.

Sumputary's next win won't be far away after having excuses, and she surged to the line.

She clocked one of the quickest final 200m splits of the meeting in 11.86 and will be more suited over a further distance.

A quick mention of Quantico, whose run had hidden sectional merit, and he can bounce back third-up.

He was restrained early and then made a long-sustained sprint clocking a slick 600m-200m split in 22.06. However, after exerting that energy, he peaked late.

Look for him with a more positive race setup net start in a similar grade.

Fastest Last 600m: Mabel 33.53
