The Autumn carnival came to a close on Saturday in extremely testing conditions with the track deteriorating throughout the meeting.
Broadsiding was one of the highlights of the day, and he was too strong for his rivals in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).
He was heavily backed, and the week backup proved vital. James McDonald rode the Godolphin galloper perfectly, and the colt revelled in the conditions.
Once he balanced up, he immediately accelerated through a gap with Punter's Intelligence recording; he ran 12.08 between the 400m-200m and maintained a solid finishing speed to the line. He is an improving type and will only benefit with time.
Linebacker was brave in defeat in only his third career start.
He always faced the breeze and tried hard to the line, running the race's second-fastest final 600m in 36.75. Further, he beat the rest easily and is one to follow in the future.
The All Aged Stakes (1400m) was the final race run on the card, and Magic Time added another Group 1 to her resume.
Although fence-in run was an advantage throughout the day, come the final event, Magic Time sitting wide with cover was no disadvantage.
She travelled well into the straight and let down with a strong turn of foot, running 24.88 for her final 400m.
Amenable improved significantly on the heavy track, and he looked to have stolen the race coming off the turn, running the race's second-equal quickest 600m-400m in 12.19 but was worn down late.
Private Eye enjoyed getting out to 1400m and was honest in conditions that didn't suit him.
Konasana bolted in and went to a new level, winning the Group 3 Mostyn Copper James H B Carr Stakes over 1400m.
The filly had the race shape against but got a good run through and built through her gears in style, responding well every time asked for a superior effort.
She sprinted the meetings fastest 600m/400m/200m closing splits in 34.97/23.11/11.97. Follow her if she strikes a rain-affected surface again.
NZ import Scarlet Oak, who was honest in defeat, was jumping sharply in grade and will undoubtedly benefit from the race experience. She ran the second-fastest final 600m in 35.91.
Mazu was well-backed, and he broke through for a long-awaited win in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m).
The gelding hadn't won since May 2022, but the deteriorating track played to his advantage, and he was too tough for his rivals.
He sat outside the leader throughout, sprinted the race's fastest 400m-200m split in 11.58, and held off the late challengers.
Villana was giving away a fitness edge, but he tried hard all the way to the line and was strong past the post. He clocked the race's fastest final 200m in 12.67.
A quick mention of Always Sure and Go Troppo, who are both coming out of the Midway (1400m). That race rated highly relative to the day even after adjustments for first use of the track and they look both set to peak third-up.
Always Sure ran 35.75 for his final 600m and Go Troppo clocked 35.37.
Fastest last 600m: Konasana 34.97
