Punter's Intel Wrap - Randwick 28th October

Whatever targets await Supply And Demand this spring and summer would appear well within his reach after an outstanding return at Randwick on Saturday.

It’s always a good sign when a classy middle distance horse sprints well fresh and the Punter’s Intel data from the Grafton Cup winner’s return illustrate he’s come back in A1 order.

Supply And Demand is known for his front-running prowess but over the 1400m he settled well back and with 400m remaining was 12m astern the winner and stablemate Cabeza De Vaca.

He cut that deficit down with a race best last 600m of 35.57 and the fastest last 200m in 12.21 in the soft ground.

Interlocuter was everybody’s good thing of the day at Randwick and he didn’t disappoint with a win that showed he’s a long way from reaching his level.

Only he and runner-up Black On Gold broke 36 seconds for the last 600m and Interlocuter’s 35.94 was set up by a couple of slick sections as he made his winning move, as opposed to his last split.

The Punter’s Intel data had Interlocuter running 11.66 and 11.67 from the 600m to the 200m before he throttled down a bit late.

While Black On Gold made some ground late the damage was done for him in those same two sections where he clocked 11.74 and 11.80. In addition, Interlocuter covered an extra 3.6m compared to the runner-up.

Black On Gold’s stablemate High Mist is clearly flying at the moment and he reeled off some race best splits in running third behind Passage Of Time in race 5.

His last 600m of 34.78 was a stand out and he was the only horse to break 12 seconds for the last 200m closing in with 11.98.

Consistent mare Just Dreaming might have been just a run short when she was hauled in late by the race fit I Am Serious in the second event.

It’s not a surprise she was found wanting late though as she worked a bit in the early stages running 18.68 for the first 300m then a rather quick 11.36 for the next 200m. So she didn’t have a lot left for her final 600m of 36.22.

Maiden filly All Too Soon can’t be a maiden for too much longer as her effort in the opening race showed she’s more than capable of winning races.

She covered more ground than any other runner (7.5m for the 1400m journey) and charged home in 35.44.

Fastest last 600m: I Thought So 33.61 (1000m race).

Most ground covered (to place): Sovereignaire +13m (1800m race).
