Punters Intel Wrap - Randwick 13th January

Surely stakes company awaits emerging mare Sugar Bella after another comprehensive win at Randwick on Saturday.

Punters Intel data revealed while her 33.42 wasn’t the fastest last 600m of the 1400m event (that honour went to Ghostly in 33.30) all the damage was done from the top of the straight.

Between the 400m and the 200m, Sugar Bella ran the fastest sectional of any horse at any stage of the race as she put her rivals to the sword with a 10.70 split.

Her last 200m was also the best of the race proving she’s just as effective, if not more, at 1400m as off a fast pace over shorter trips.

Morton’s Fork again left things a bit too late to run down Dreamforce in the Maroubra Mile (1600m) and what Punters Intel can tell us is he hit a flat spot somewhere between about the 500m and the 200m.

The four-year-old went from trailing Dreamforce by about 8m coming to the bend to almost 12 by the 200m. From there, even though his 11.56 last 200m was easily the best of the race it was impossible to pick up the ground.

He’s clearly going well but needs all the conditions to suit him.

From Within might be back on track as she’s now put two sound efforts together, and in her second placing on Saturday she clocked the fastest last 600m of the day.

Her 32.60 was set up by a 10.89 and 10.52, as she loomed up to win before just weakening a bit late running 11.19 for the last 200m.

To the eye, second last placed Roman Typhoon appeared one of the more unlucky runners of the day and if that’s the case then his times would back that view up.

While 33.08 for the last 600m was well off the pace he was setting it up nicely as he built momentum before striking trouble. His 11.24 last 200m was the fourth fastest behind the three placegetters.

Sugar Bella’s stablemate Reach For Heaven was far from disgraced in defeat after a wide run and he definitely felt the effects of it in the closing stages.

He sprinted up to be the winner with a 10.73 from the 400m to the 200m but couldn’t sustain it. Fastest last 600m for the race went to Argent D’Or (33.28) who was first-up from a spell.

Fastest last 600m: From Within 32.60

Most ground covered: So It Is +13.6m (1600m).
