The Board of Racing NSW has given careful consideration to the conduct of licensed trainer, Mr Ciaron Maher, and his stable racing manager, Mr Ben Connolly, and their admissions of breaches of the Rules of Racing relative to the ownership of a number of horses. Those horses include Azkadellia, which raced in New South Wales on three occasions in 2016 (placed 2nd in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic on 12 March 2016, placed 3rd in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile on 2 April 2016 and won the Group 1 Queen of the Turf on 9 April 2016).
In particular, the Board of Racing NSW has considered whether Azkadellia should be disqualified from those NSW races pursuant to AR56B, which provides that a horse may be disqualified where a person fails to declare a share or interest in a horse or provides misleading or inaccurate information regarding the ownership of a horse.
The Board of Racing NSW has resolved that Azkadellia not be disqualified from the above NSW races in which it competed, having regard to the fact that the horse competed on a level-playing field with the other horses in those races. There is no evidence to suggest that the breach of AR56B in any way influenced the results in those races.
