Notice - Amendment Of Weights At Acceptance Time In Handicap Races

Racing NSW advises the following change to the amendment of weights at acceptance time in handicap races, for instances where there is not a horse accepting on the limit weight at acceptance time.

1.

Where the top weight at acceptance time is below 60kg and a full weight spread down to the applicable limit weight is not achieved, the handicap weights will be retained.

Weights will not be reduced at acceptance time to have the bottom weighted horse on the limit weight in each sector where the top weighted horse accepting for the race has been handicapped at below 60kg.

For example if at acceptance time, the handicap weights of acceptors range from 59.5kg to 54.5kg, these weights would be retained, rather than reduced to the 53kg (metropolitan) or 54kg (provincial/country) limit.

2.

Where the top weight at acceptance time is greater than 60kg and a full weight spread down to the applicable limit weight is not achieved:

a.

Weights will be reduced to a top weight of 59.5kg; and b.

Any reduction in weights be limited to a maximum of 2kg.

Examples i.

At acceptance time, the handicap weights range from 60.5kg to 55.5kg. It is this instance these would be reduced to a top weight of 59.5kg (59.5kg to 54.5kg).

ii.

At acceptance time, the handicap weights range from 63.0kg to 57.0kg, these would be reduced by a maximum of 2kg, to a top weight in this instance of 61.0kg (61.0kg to 55.0kg).

iii.

Any reduction is of course limited by the minimum or limit weight for the sector.

For instance, where at acceptance time the handicap weights of acceptors for a metropolitan race range from 61.5kg to 54.0kg, the reduction would be 1kg, to a top weight in this instance of 60.5kg (60.5kg to 53.0kg).
