Racing industry participants in the Provincial Racing Districts are invited to attend the next Racing Mates BBQ ‘Get-Together’ at the Newcastle Jockey Club Race Meeting on Friday, March 7th.
The gathering will be held from 12pm prior to race day and will also recognise International Women’s Day, honouring the resilience and strength of women in thoroughbred racing, from jockeys and trainers to leaders in corporate roles.
“We are pleased to be hosting our first Racing Mates event for 2025 at Newcastle,” Racing Mates ambassador, Pat Webster said.
Racing Mates is a peer support initiative established by Racing NSW, empowering mates to look out for mates.
Research has found that effective support offered from peers and colleagues can aid significantly in coping with stress and difficult situations.
“There is nothing better than talking to someone who understands where you're coming from,” Webster said.
The BBQ will be held for participants from 12pm at the Meadows Marquee near the race day stalls.
“Newcastle Racecourse is pleased to support the Racing Mates program and look forward to seeing our racing participants engage in meaningful discussions about mental health and understanding that support is available,” Newcastle Jockey Club CEO, Duane Dowell said.
The Newcastle Club is also hosting an event to celebrate International Women’s Day, featuring Sam Bloom who became a 4X World Para Surfing Champion after being paralysed in an accident. If you would like to attend this event visit www.newcastleracecourse.com.au for further information.
