Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 6 and rail true:

Race 1 - 12:50PM THE ARY TOUKLEY PROVINCIAL 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

2. Captain Eagle is an emerging four-year-old who likely starts at very prohibitive odds. Failed to live up to the early raps across three runs in his first prep last winter, but was given plenty of time, and showed in two trials he's ready to return a far better and more mature galloper. Trainer has rung the gear changes too, including blinkers coming off, and several pieces going on. The one to beat. Watch the betting on home tracker 3. Maximum Ride who resumes off a 43 week break with no public trials. 1. Cante Libre can run into money improving at his third start.

How to play it: Captain Eagle to win

Race 2 - 1:25PM ASH & SONS MIDWAY 2&3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

10. Perle De Chocolat will appreciate being back in this company after being outclassed in the Group 2 Riesling behind Tempted who should have won the Golden Slipper a fortnight later. Drawn to get cover off speed and prove the strongest late. 9. Lady Pankhurst is a natural improver and clear threat also coming through an even debut effort in the same feature race as the top selection. 4. Oakfield Jupiter, a filly by Toronado for the home Damien Lane stable, has had to bide her time before debuting, but looked sharp enough winning a Newcastle trial four weeks back, and has trained on okay. 8. Kissavos from the inside draw is the best of the colts on show.

How to play it: Perle De Chocolat to win

Race 3 - 2:00PM LIFEFUL NDIS SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

6. Reducio is a smart Godolphin filly by Harry Angel primed to return for a second prep with a bang. Found the line well in two runs to start her career at Kembla late last winner before spelling. Has worked well in and around two improving trials, and is city bound. 8. Ti Amo Tanto was fair through the line when resuming at Newcastle, and is bred to improve on a softer surface jumping from the inside gate. Big watch on 4. Catonahottinroof second-up off a strong closing effort here 15 days ago, and was scratched from Warwick Farm on Wednesday to be saved for this. Gap to the rest headed by 3. Star Prediction who steps up from a solid debut run in the country.

How to play it: Reducio to win

Race 4 - 2:35PM API ENGINEERING BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

5. Koning can finally end the frustration and get back in punters' good books, peaking over this longer journey fifth-up. Chased valiantly in a Midway CL1 a fortnight ago after some very underwhelming efforts prior. Gets a timely weight drop, and this is an ideal triop at this point of the campaign. 8. Alpine Kandy relished the heavy track at Scone second-up and was dominant through the line. Steps up sharply in trip and against provincial opposition, although still handily placed after the jockey takes 2kg off. 2. Our Uptown Girl has won two of her last three, the latest charging home to beat similar opposition at Hawkesbury. Rises 2kg here, but couldn't be fitter. 1. Hunky Dory who has won his last three in the country in and around the mile trip; and 4. Marenaro improving over more ground third-up; are both capable of running into the minor money.

How to play it: Koning to win

Race 5 - 3:10PM REWARD HOMES MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

11. Elegant Artist is ready to break through fourth-up. Hasn't been far away in three runs this prep, the latest sticking on strong from a wide draw at Hawkesbury and only collared by a long neck. Carries a half kilo less here, with a leading jockey taking over, and she has a preference for soft ground. 9. Pappiana is drawn to get a nice run just off the speed fourth-up. 8. Khant Fail also looks well placed second-up over this trip, with a senior and stronger rider going on; while 1. Call Me Mighty third-up from the inside heads the rest.

How to play it: Elegant Artist to win

Race 6 - 3:45PM PETER MAC'S MECHANICAL F&M BM64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Miss Spacegirl is a lightly raced and progressive filly, and terrific value here staying at the distance second-up. Resumed with a strong finishing effort in weaker class at Gosford, drawn to get to the middle of the track again late, and thrives on rain-affected ground. 7. Mamushka is unbeaten after two starts, and a clear threat. Swept home to beat the top selection three weeks ago, draws to get cover, only query is in soft ground. 12. Every Heart is over the odds after being narrowly beaten from the front in her last two. Drawn to roll forward and dictate again, especially coming back 100m in distance. 8. Party Doll has beaten all but the winner in two runs back from a spell; handles soft going and can figure in the minor money. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Miss Spacegirl to win

Race 7 - 4:20PM PROVINCIAL-MIDWAY CHAMPIONSHIPS WILDCARD (1350 METRES)

6. French Ruler is a progressive three-year-old primed to strike fourth-up in the Qualifier with blinkers on, and book his place in the Final at Randwick. Was under a half length from the winner in a strong Listed Canberra Guineas before working home okay in the qualifier at Newcastle. Early career form suggests he will get through the ground. 10. Harlow Mist is the stablemate mare in the John Sargent yard also peaking fourth-up on a nine day turnaround from the Newcastle qualifier where she struck trouble. Will appreciate a wet track. 7. Rolling Magic made up good late ground in the Gosford qualifier when coming off a month-long break, and is well over the odds. 2. Magnatear boxed on for a long way in the Listed National Sprint at Canberra three weeks ago, and will run this out, but still a query on a heavy surface. 14. Let's Go Again draws low, and is one of the better placed longshots, having won her only previous start in heavy ground. 1. Spangler who loves wet tracks; 4. Broadway Bouncer who is hard fit and likes to drift well back and charge home; and 5. The Extreme Cat improving into his second-up run; are all capable of finishing in the minor money.

How to play it: French Ruler to win

Race 8 - 4:55PM LAKES PODIATRY CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

12. Bend The Knee is trained on the course and well placed to strike fifth-up at good oddsin what is now a weakened race. Has placed in his last couple at the provincials in similar company, both times finishing off well from midfield. Will benefit further with more speed up front this time in a bigger field, and only needs to find clear effort from the turn. 15. Gone To Cape York hasn't started for six weeks since an eye-catching win on debut at Nowra. Draws to park right behind the speed, but may well need to steer away from the inside late in the day. Under the odds. Keep safe 3. Metallic Ruler dropping back from tougher metro grade second-up, and draws to get a handy run. 1. Botanica back in grade from a seven week break goes in all trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: Bend The Knee each way

Race 9 - 5:35PM NORTHLAKES TOUKLEY ROTARY BM64 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. Glorioso is a talented soft tracker, and well suited at good odds to make a big first-up statement in another open race. Was always in and around the money last spring including a narrow BM 64 provincial win. Has been fitted with two easy trials, and can settle back off the pace before launching over the top late. Watch the market too on locally-trained 11. Bellenth who hasn't started for nearly a year, but has trialled well and won his maiden here as a hot favorite. 10. Ride The River missed narrowly fourth-up in similar company at Newcastle;e, but drew off the track this time. 2. Oakfield Badgers second-up and trained on the course; is on the next line.

How to play it: Glorioso to win
