Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true so on-pace early before levelling out

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Godolphin is flying with its juveniles at the moment and has another big hand here. 2. Buoyancy resumes off two solid trials for only his second career start..

Dangers: Randwick-trained 5. Sir Owen was good first up behind a smart one and draws the fence; while watch for improvement from 6. Jaytees who comes out of that same debut race at Gosford when weakening late.

How to play it: Buoyancy to win

Race 2 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

This could prove to be a strong form maiden. Randwick-trained 2. Canyonero proved costly again last start when run down late at Hawkesbury after being heavily backed; but had excuses being caught wide and forced to race on-speed completely against his pattern. Will get a more customary trailing position today, and can finally break through at 11th start.

Dangers: Liked the recent trial of Godolphin filly 7. Mimi who hit the line strong and returns for her second prep. Big watch on Randwick filly 10. She's So Savvy who wasn't beaten far on debut in that maiden behind Regal Stage, and will appreciate further ground being by So You Think. Drawn to settle back and do no work early; while Randwick gelding and early favourite 1. Blast has been given time after debuting in July, and trial runs have been solid.

How to play it: Canyonero each-way and box exacta 1-2-7

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Four runs into her second prep, this looks the right race for Randwick filly 9. Pop Girl who hasn't missed by much in her last three, including a close-up third behind Altier in what was a deeper race at Canterbury. Drawn to park a few lengths off the speed and pounce in the straight.

Dangers: Godolphin filly 8. Loveseat flew home late at Kembla and will relish the extra trip, but drawn wide and up in weight. Warwick Farm gelding 4. Fury Of The Storm is well placed third-up from good draw after hitting the line hard at Orange last start; while Randwick mare 6. Lady Grande who debuted with a nice closing effort over 1400m at Taree; is a genuine each-way runner.

How to play it: Pop Girl to win.

Pop Girl runs second at Canterbury on February 15

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Godolphin filly 9. Ariege resumes and looked smart in a recent trial win when scouting wide and finishing down the middle under a nice hold. Draws a cosy barrier.

Dangers: Is today the day for Godolphin gelding 4. Pindus? Has tested punters and connections' patience with five seconds from nine starts, and was grabbed right on the line this track last start. Back again in trip to a suitable 1000m, and despite wide draw, can come across and sit outside the leader. Randwick debutant 5. Vermont looks a real runner off two winning trials, the latest at this track when showing plenty of gate speed. Include debutant local filly 12. Camellia Legend who won a recent trial at Gosford in multiples.

How to play it: Ariege to win and quinella 4 and 9

Ariege wins a trial at Warwick Farm on February 14

Race 5 BM 64 HCP (1200m):

Almost a match race between two smart and resuming fillies. Going narrowly with Rosehill-trained 8. The Soloist. Won her first two at Goulburn when well backed before progressing to Listed company at only third career start. Prepared for return winning a genuinely run trial at Warwick Farm.

Dangers: Another Godolphin runner 6. Segalas is the clear threat returning off a four month break. Was held together in a recent trial, but comes to hand quickly. Just missed on debut last prep and then scored dominant win from the front this track second up. Talented local mare 4. Mighty Marmalade didn't get the speed on up front to suit last time, and again will drift right back from a wide gate; but is capable of running the fastest final 400m in the race.

How to play it: The Soloist to win; quinella 6 and 8; and trifecta 6-8/4-6-8

Race 6 BM 64 HCP (1200m):

Moderate, but tricky race. Gosford mare 3. Queen Ablaze won first-up at home in strong fashion to start her second prep, and should be in the finish again, although with 59kg, 1200m is as far as she wants.

Dangers: Newcastle colt 2. Kanavu returned with a terrific run behind the smart Temple Run at Gosford, and took on metro company at only second career run last prep.

How to play it: Queen Ablaze to win.

Race 7 CL2 HCP (1350m):

A familiar pattern emerges again for smart Randwick 4YO 3. China Gale. Won his maiden first-up off a long break this track and trip back in the winter when heavily backed; and again well prepared for similar assignment off two forward trials, the latest splitting good horses Bondi and Terminology. Naturally up in grade, but carries his lightest weight after rider's 3kg claim.

Dangers: Newcastle filly 6. Sunreel returns off a six month break and has trialled twice. Won two in an impressive first prep that took her to Group 3 level finishing under 4 lens from Aramayo in the Spring Stakes. Local mare 7. Joy For Us charged home to win a good CL1 third-up, and is hard fit now for leading stable. Big watch too on another Kris Lees runner 10. Londinium who flashed home from a mile back in a BM 58 at Coffs Harbour before trialling strongly this track, and carries a postage stamp weight after the claim. Include capable Wyong 4YO 8. Oakfield Twilight in exotic tickets.

How to play it: China Gale to win and box trifecta 3-6-7-10

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Like the drop back in trip and form apprentice claiming 3kg for 1. Zeppelin who is smart enough on his day and best form is around the mile.

Dangers: Local 3YO gelding 4. Holy Reign is flying this prep powering home from midfield to win his last two at Kembla and Newcastle. Looks up to this grade, but inside draw might be a pattern query late in the day. Muswellbrook 7YO 2. Disgraceful is also ready for this trip third-up and gets 3kg off; while Warwick Farm mare 5. Sensacova mixes form, but anything near her third placing behind White Boots in a BM 70 last run will ensure she's in the finish.

How to play it: Zeppelin to win and quinella 1 and 4.
