Neil Evans' Tips For Kembla Grange (Saturday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true

Race 1 - 12:25PM THE HUNTER MEDIA CO F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

6. Kilkenny is a lightly raced and well bred filly in the Chris Waller stable suitably placed from the draw to break through at only her third start. Came off a lengthy break to hold her ground in a Super Maiden at Warwick Farm, but a longer journey here and getting on a much bigger track are both big pluses. 2. Flying Chevrolet continues to improve for an emerging country stable. Finds an ideal trip fourth-up and well treated after the 3kg claim. 4. Hell's Vixen showed improvement fourth-up in the country and gets weight relief after the claim. Gap to the rest.

Race 2 - 1:00PM RAINMAKER BUSHFIRE SPRINKLERS CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

6. Juan Pablo, an emerging three-year-old in the Richard and Will Freedman yard, can claim the boys' edition at his third start. Ran home well when debuting over 1300m at Hawkesbury before making late ground over the same track and trip four weeks between runs. Desperate for the extra trip now, and he should relish this long sweeping stretch. Was scratched from Wyong on Thursday to be saved for this. 7. Okami Star second-up comes out of the same race as the top selection, and draws to get a handy run. Watch the betting on metropolitan-based 5. Irish Jig who resumes for a second prep behind two progressive trials, bolting in the latest over 1200m. 2. Irish Anthem draws better second-up staying over the distance. 3. Afloat is another lightly raced improver over a furlong further. Gap to the rest.

Race 3 - 1:35PM HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY ROY OLIFF MIDWAY CLASS 1 (1000 METRES)

1. Quartz Legend was a smart debut winner at this track back in spring before things went horribly wrong when resuming here four weeks ago, beaten by more than seven lengths as a $1.26 favourite! The jockey reported the gelding never travelled, but subsequent scopes found nothing amiss. Certainly looked more himself in a rock solid recent trial, and from an ideal draw, he can bounce straight back. 2. She Conquers is lightly raced, and improves sharply after not getting much room first-up at Hawkesbury. Watch the betting on 3. Tessy Tee resuming off a nice trial win. 5. Bethsheba heads the rest and must go in trifecta and first four plays.

Race 4 - 2:10PM BETTY & NOEL MALLON SUPER 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

10. One Step Closer, a colt by Castelvecchio in the John O'Shea and Tim Charlton yard, is primed for a big debut. Improved off a provincial trial trial to go home best at Rosehill where he was pushed out to run down the leader, but there was a big gap back to third that day. Looks ready to go, with important gear additions from a low draw. 13. Just A Journey, a filly by Justify, is a clear threat having hit the line impressively on debut after being backed from $5.00 into $4.20. 2. Costabit has the benefit of race experience; running home okay on debut at Warwick Farm 17 days ago. Among a few bigger price market watches on debut is 3. Eynesbury, a colt by Savabeel in the Waller camp who starts behind two easy and improving trials, the latest over-racing early before closing off nicely under a good hold. 6. Irish Sinner, a first starter by Saxon Warrior, and 9. Officiate, a Justify colt on debut, are next best.

Race 5 - 2:45PM TRISTAN PAYN CONDITIONAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Progressive 10. Zousain Bolt gets blinkers back on at the right time in what is now a weakened race. Showed good tactical speed to win a BM 68 at Newcastle three starts ago before close-up at Warwick Farm, then hung on okay from the front in a deeper battle at Hawkesbury. Is very fit, and coming back 100m in distance is a plus. 2. Ready To Shine can run into the finish second-up over 100m further. 5. Presides dug in hard to claim a CL1 at Newcastle second-up, although drawn wider this time. 9. Wild Gypsy can mix her form, but was dominant from the front against similar opposition two starts ago before running home late in deeper company at Hawkesbury.

How to play it: Zousain Bolt to win

Race 6 - 3:25PM ILLAWARRA RSL SUB-BRANCHES PROVINCIAL MAIDEN (1300 METRES)

1. West Head, a three-year-old by Pierata in the Brad Widdup yard, resumes for a second prep behind two improving trials up to 1030m. Showed plenty last spring, attacking the line late to just miss on debut at Canterbury before narrowly beaten at Wyong, and then running home late at Randwick when up in trip on Boxing Day. Looks set for a nice prep, and this is a well placed starting point, especially with one of the main market rivals coming out. Keep safe 8. Helliconia, a local filly by Hallowed Crown, debuting off two trials; while 3. Shoot'em Up and 10. Epyptian's Reward can add value into trifecta and first four returns.

How to play it: West Head to win

Race 7 - 4:05PM CITY OF WOLLONGONG RSL SUB-BRANCH GALLIPOLI CUP BM64 (1200M)

9. Let's Go Again, a capable mare trained on the track, is good value here fourth-up with blinkers back on. Ran home late in a Provincial C'ship Qualifier two starts ago before not getting much room in the WildCard Qualifier at Wyong when not suited, being cluttered up inside runners. This is more to her liking in a race of far less depth, and she's drawn to get to the middle of the course late. 1. Dashing Rupert has a 60 percent winning strike rate from five starts, and naturally right in the hunt third-up after being stiff behind the placegetters in similar company at Hawkesbury. 2. Annie's Rose recaptured her best to claim a third career win in a feature sprint at Muswellbrook. Back up in weight here but draws to get a soft run. Home track mare 7. Zarni resumes off a forward trial; while 8. Divine Vicky deep into her prep is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Let's Go Again to win

Race 8 - 4:40PM PETER POULTON AM MEMORIAL BM64 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

2. Last Command is well placed to claim a very open closer second-up. Caught the eye charging home from near last into a place at Hawkesbury when resuming, and normally takes that form into the next run. Tackled Group 3 company last spring, and in well at the weights after the jockey's 3kg claim. 6. Squeezebox also finished off well in that same race as the top selection, and drew to park closer in the run here. 13. Miss Spacegirl is a progressive filly bursting to win a second race after missing by a whisker at Wyong second-up. 7. Twin Turbo, and 10. Hyperbolic are both capable of running into minor money.

How to play it: Last Command to win

BEST BETS:
R3 1. QUARTZ LEGEND
R8 2. LAST COMMAND

BEST VALUE:
R2 6. JUAN PABLO
