Neil Evans' Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Soft 7 and rail True so on or near the speed early before trending wider as the day goes on

Race 1 PROV & CTRY MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

The sprinters gets us underway, and 4YO Newcastle mare 1. Dreaming Of Gold can finally go one better and break through in suitable ground on a reasonably quick back-up and third-up. After flashing home for consecutive seconds in first prep, has hit the line hard in two runs on Soft 7 this time in.

Dangers: Gosford 4YO gelding 3. Estroverto resumes off a tidy trial for under-rate stable. Was consistently in the placings over more ground last prep, and while fresh record is ordinary, thrown in at the weights after form jockey's 2kg claim. Local 4YO mare 5. Moinda has had three useful runs this prep, and comes out of that same maiden behind Dreaming Of Gold this track just over a week ago; while respect 3YO Gosford debutant 2. Forged In Stone (Stratum x Writteninthestars by Written Tycoon) who bolted in a recent trial at Dubbo in heavy ground.

How to play it: Dreaming Of Gold to win and first four 1/2,3,5/2,3,5/2,3,5. Odds and Evens (First 2): Odds

Race 2 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

Emerging 3YO filly 3. Snitzinnati from the strong Gerald Ryan yard at Rosehill looks supremely suited third start this distance in ground she relishes. Powered home to win on debut in the heavy at Muswellbrook before fighting on okay in a BM 64 behind a smart one at Newcastle.

Dangers: Rival 3YO Rosehill filly 2. Vox Popouli also gets back on preferred rain-affected ground, and can figure third-up. Didn't finish off in a BM 64 at Kembla, but hits peak fitness here. Doubt anything else can win, although 3YO Wyong gelding 5. Mathematics finally landed his maiden on a Heavy 10 at Dubbo, and any further downgrade would be right up his alley.

How to play it: Snitzinnati to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Snitzinatti runs fourth at Newcastle on March 6

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

With seemingly the only rivals scratched, 4YO gelding 1. Nowyunomi from the Waterhouse-Bott stable at Randwick should have a field day first-up. Looked forward in two trials, and blinkers come off, and while having first try in the conditions, is bred to handle it.

Dangers: None.

How to play it: Nowyunomi to win and in-order first four 1-4-6-7. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1500m):

Intriguing maiden at set weights. Was a little disappointed in smart 5YO Gosford mare 8. Patrina at third start in first prep, running a third successive second placing, but after Tom Sherry's 2kg claim, she's in terrific at the weights. By Pierro out of a US mare who bolted in her only start in the heavy, so no concern with any downgrade. The one to beat.

Dangers: Expect sharp improvement second-up from 3YO Randwick gelding 5. Well Known who was flat in a handy field at Kembla, and better suited here. Warwick Farm gelding 1. Affogato is still trying to break through after 10 starts, but looks a real wet-tracker. Did it tough from the wide draw at Newcastle dropping right out, but previously won a heavy track trial before holding his ground in a handy maiden at Gosford on Soft 6.

How to play it: Patrina to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Patrina runs second at Newcastle on March 6

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1800m):

Still with the maidens, but out in trip for one of the tougher races on the card. Randwick 3YO filly 6. Cape Leopard gets to an ideal distance third-up dropping back to provincial level, but will need to find cover from an awkward gate. Finished off okay in Group 3 company at Caulfield last spring, and on her way to longer riches being by a former Melbourne Cup winner out of a Derby-winning sired dam.

Dangers: Looks a nice second-up journey for 3YO Dundeel-sired gelding 1. Entente who hit the line nicely resuming in similar ground at Kembla, and well in only 2kg over the limit weight. Improving 4YO Waller-trained 3. Lanu Moana has a tough task from the outside barrier at just her third start, but did best work late in two runs at Newcastle, and distance looks ideal being by a former Cox Plate winner; while promising 3YO filly 10. Quintessa fell apart after being slow to begin as a red-hot favourite resuming at Kembla, but drops sharply in weight, and form around smart ones in first prep suggests she can hit straight back.

How to play it: Cape Leopard to win and box trifecta 1,3,6,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Testing race, with several chances. Loved the way 3YO Randwick gelding 3. Destiny's Son kept rolling from the front to easily win resuming in heavy ground on the Beaumont track. Up in distance, but drawn to control the tempo again.

Dangers: Rosehill 3YO gelding 1. Nuclear Summit kept finding the line first-up at Goulburn when well backed, and only win so far from six starts came second-up at this track last winter. The first-up run in a Class 1 at Newcastle from 3YO Wyong gelding 5. All Over Magic was better than it looked, and only career win came second-up in dominant fashion this track last spring; while 3YO filly 9. Oribella from the Snowden yard will find this more to her liking coming back from two fair closing efforts in BM 64 grade at Gosford. Was scratched from Scone on Monday, and blinkers go on.

How to play it: Destiny's Son each way and box trifecta 1,3,5,9. Odds and Evens: Odds a Special

Race 7 BM 70 HCP (1300m):

Good quality highlight race of the day, and two runners can fight this out. Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Above And Beyond has been freshened, and will appreciate the drop back in grade and trip at fifth run this prep. Draws to get a nice trail on-speed, and trainer has removed the blinkers.

Dangers: Promising 3YO Randwick filly 5. California Salto resumes off two quiet trials, but comes to hand quickly. Won two straight from off the speed last spring on her way to competing at Listed level in spring, and likes this sort of ground. Progressive 4YO gelding 9. Maroch flew home resuming at big odds on the Kensington track before again finishing off in similar company, and is screaming out now for more ground. Bathurst 4YO gelding 10. Electrified is knocking on the door after three tidy efforts in Highway grade before charging home to beat all bar one of the smarter non-metro gallopers in NSW in a Country C'ship qualifier at Mudgee. Won't want it any worse than Soft 7.

How to play it: Above And Beyond each way; quinella 1 and 6; trifecta 1,6,9/1,6,9,10/1,6,9,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8. BM 64 HCP (2000m):

We wrap up the meeting with an open battle for the stayers. Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 4. Sirmaze will appreciate the big drop back in grade when outclassed a mile second-up in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas after resuming with a fast-finishing effort in the Canberra Guineas Prelude. Took on smart carnival opposition last spring, but is a query in the ground.

Dangers: Not convinced 3YO Warwick Farm filly 15. Parche is comfortable on rain-affected ground, but if she runs up to her barn-storming maiden win at Kembla beating a very handy galloper she'll be driving into the finish; while 3YO Rosehill filly 12. Living Rocks gets to a suitable distance third-up and is best of the rest.

How to play it: Sirmaze each way. Odds and Evens: Split.
