Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 5 and rail true

Race 1 - 1:50PM SHAMROCK JOINERY SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

7. San Gabriel is primed to break through third-up in a maiden mile lacking depth. Liked the way he attacked the line from well back at Wyong, and from a softer draw can park a little closer this time, and is right at home on rain-affected ground. 2. Dwayne is the clear threat improving into his second start, with blinkers going on. Big gap to the rest headed by 4. Lots To Love, a stablemate of the top selection, who also has blinkers going on; while 3. Legris can add value into wider exotix plays.

How to play it: San Gabriel to win

Race 2 - 2:25PM DAHLSENS CG&E MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

1. Ima Capri has been narrowly beaten in two runs to open his career, and emerges as the one to beat here improving again over 100m further. Tracked the speed before missing by a head at Hawkesbury on debut before being run down late leading in the country. Will roll forward again and bred to handle soft ground. 3. Imperial State is likely to jump a short-priced favourite back from city company second-up. Another one with the addition of blinkers, but from an awkward draw, threatens to go around under the odds. 5. Passalacqua is a big watch resuming as a gelding behind a handy trial. 4. Lord Vettori, trained on the track and resuming off a lengthy break, is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Ima Capri to win

Race 3 - 3:05PM AWS WINDOWS PROVINCIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Oakfield Saturn, a filly by American Pharoah on debut with gear additions for the Damien Lane stable, rates clear on top. Was strong through the line in comfortably winning a Beaumont trial, and the jockey is a strong pointer, along with the well fancied stablemate coming out. 7. Justice Please has trialled okay ahead of her first run since last spring. Both 6. Exothrill from a better draw, and at big odds 3. The Netball Queen; go into exotics.

Race 4 - 3:40PM COASTWIDE WATERPROOFING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Written Scandal is much better placed here third-up coming back 100m in trip and on to a smaller circuit. Exploded away to win on debut at Wyong before getting lost in a poor effort as a hot favorite at Kembla. Best weighted runner after the jockey's 2kg claim, and she can bounce back from a middle gate. 7. Lady Zodiac is a big threat second-up back in class after missing by a half length here 12 days ago. 6. Be Quiet is over the odds reloading a month after a dominant front-running win when fresh at Kembla, and has since trialled. 4. Orthie's Boy second-up with blinkers going on is capable of running into the minor money, and was preferred in this to a deeper race later on the program.

How to play it: Written Scandal to win

Race 5 - 4:15PM DELTACORP CONDITIONAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

9. Kenmare Bay is a talented three-year-old who should have more wins than the sole success from eight starts so far. That said, she's been luckless in a few of those five minor placings, close up at Wyong two starts back before stiff not to win a conditional BM 68 in heavy ground over a mile a fortnight ago when charging home late to fail by a long neck. Relishes rain-affected ground, gets out over a longer trip at the right time, and is drawn to get to the middle of the track late. 4. Our Uptown Girl is value shooting for a third win from her last four. Backs up in nine days after sweeping home to beat a handy field at Hawkesbury over 2000m. 5. Prime Impact can bounce back fifth-up over further after a poor run at Hawkesbury. 1. Fernao is also a knockout chance coming back in distance fourth-up.

How to play it: Kenmare Bay to win

Race 6 - 4:50PM ABOUT THE HOUSE MIDWAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

9. She Conquers is a smart and lightly raced metropolitan filly resuming off a soft trial. Impressed when powering home from well back to win a Midway Maiden just before Xmas, and has reportedly been working well since. Drawn to settle back with cover and produce a superior closing 300m burst, and was scratched from an earlier race to run in this. 2. Oakfield Badger is drawn to be in the finish again after missing by a whisker first-up at Wyong. 6. Sneaky Sofia will appreciate being back at provincial level third-up after dropping out in Saturday BM 72 metropolitan company. 8. Capital Dancer is trained on the course, and dominated after bouncing to the front when resuming at Newcastle off a seven month spell. 4. Gomagog chasing a third win from his last four is a must for trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: She Conquers to win

Race 7 - 5:30PM ADVANCE BUILDING SERVICES BM64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

4. Alcabeel is an improving four-year-old by Savabeel from the Waterhouse-Bott stable, drawn to get a soft run second-up. Missed by a whisker when hitting the line well at Hawkesbury, and parks closer in the run this time. Watch the betting closely on 2. Belle Detelle, a progressive filly by Zed in the Chris Waller yard, who has been freshened up with a very quiet trial since a maiden win at Sandown a month ago. 8. Star Legacy has run home into a place in his last three, but a query coming back a furlong in distance on a smaller track. 13. Buba is hard fit and can run into the minor money. 11. Call Me Magnifique wasn't far off a promising winner last start, and can add plenty of value into trifecta and first fours.

How to play it: Alcabeel to win

BEST BETS:
R3 2. OAKFIELD SATURN
R5 9. KENMARE BAY

BEST VALUE:
R7 4. ALCABEEL
