Menari put the writing on the wall in two impressive trial wins and he brought that form to the race track to win comfortably on debut at Randwick.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the $1.85 favourite though as he was slow out of the gates, having led in both trials, and jockey James Innes Jnr was forced to take a sit on the colt.
Menari is a colt worth following
“Gerald said no set plan. He did begin a bit tardy but in the small field I was happy to just drop in behind. Piracy was going quite hard which we thought he might and things panned out well. It was just a matter of keeping him balanced and getting the job done,” Innes said.
“He was on debut so he’ll benefit from the run and gain a lot of experience from it.
“He’s a smart horse.”
With Gerald Ryan at the Gold Coast Magic Millions meeting, the son of Snitzel was left in the care of stable representative Stephen Hood.
“Gerald was on the toe this morning because he rang me a couple of times but the horse travelled really well. He’s a lovely colt,” Hood added.
