Canberra Racing Club is deeply saddened that trackwork rider, Riharna Thomson, remains on life support in a critical condition following a tragic accident on Tuesday morning while riding a horse in trackwork at Thoroughbred Park.
Riharna is a dedicated track rider, rising early every morning to ride work and was recently promoted to the position of Stable Foreman of the Keith Dryden-Scott Collings training partnership.
Riharna, 22, is a young and enthusiastic horse lover who is well respected and loved among the local stable fraternity.
"Our thoughts are with Riharna’s family and friends during this difficult time. Her family requests that their privacy be respected at this sad time," said CRC's CEO, Peter Stubbs.
"Everyone in the racing family at Thoroughbred Park is deeply affected by Riharna’s accident."
Club employees and stable staff are receiving support and have been offered counselling services locally and with the assistance of local Pastor Rev, Steven Prior and Racing NSW Pastor Rev, Colin Watts and through the Racing NSW Racing Mates Assistance Program.
The Rev Colin Watts will lead prayers for Riharna in the Mounting Yard at 1pm on Sunday prior to the first race.
