The Australian Turf Club will jointly present a major donation to the Mark Hughes Foundation at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday as the home of Sydney’s iconic Golden Slipper completes a six-week stint of Saturday racing.
A cheque for $33,060 will be given by ATC and Australian Bloodstock after both pledged to donate 5 per cent of any net prizemoney from slot runner Brave Smash in the TAB Everest in October.
Brave Smash earned third place prizemoney of $800,000, leaving the total donation of $33,060 (after jockey and trainer percentages) to the Foundation.
The Mark Hughes Foundation is a not for profit organisation formed in Newcastle by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following former league star Mark’s diagnosis with brain cancer in 2013.
The cheque presentation will be made between race 6, the Beanie For Brain Cancer Handicap, and race 7, the Mark Hughes Foundation Handicap.
Patrons at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday will have the chance to receive a free ticket to next year’s Longines Golden Slipper simply by being on course.
A special code word will be published in the racebook and displayed on the infield superscreen which allows redemption of one free ticket to the world’s richest race for two year olds.
ATC this Saturday also launches details of a Western Sydney Longines Golden Slipper Trophy Tour.
Local community events will be able to register for the chance to have the Longines Golden Slipper trophy at their event on days from January through to March 2018.
