Racing NSW Stewards today continued an inquiry in respect to apprentice jockey Braith Nock’s actions when riding of Royale Veloute in the home straight in Race 7 at the Hawkesbury meeting on Saturday, 7th September 2024.
Evidence today was taken from Brait Nock in the presence of Racing NSW Industry Training mentor, Cameron Swan and Louis Beuzelin, the rider of Without You.
Apprentice jockey Nock pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) in that as the rider of Royale Veloute in Race 7 (Royal Richmond Hotel F&M Class 1 Handicap, 1300m) at the Hawkesbury race meeting on Saturday, 7th September 2024, he did engage in improper riding in that:
(i) passing the 200m, when racing tight between Long Memory and Without You, he directed his mount out towards Without You and extended his left knee with the intention to contact Without You and/or its rider Louis Beuzelin, and
(ii) over the final 50m, when Cohesive commenced to shift out towards his mount, he again directed his mount out towards Without You to avoid Cohesive, and intentionally raised his left elbow, which contacted the body Louis Beuzelin, rider of Without You.
Penalty
Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was a suspension of Braith Nock’s licence for a period of 8 weeks. Having regard to Mr Nock’s guilty plea, forthright evidence and remorse over his actions, the Stewards reduced the penalty to a period of 6 weeks suspension.
Accordingly, Braith Nock’s licence was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 29 September 2024 and to expire on 11 November 2024.
Braith Nock was advised that should he provide evidence of having undertaken a satisfactory level of appropriate counselling, Stewards would give consideration to staying a further 2 week period of the suspension under AR283(5).
Relevant Rule
