Legends To Be Made This Longines Golden Slipper Day

Rosehill Gardens’ premier raceday of the year, Longines Golden Slipper Day, will see one juvenile race into the history books as the winner of the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper this Saturday.

The ‘Golden Carnival Pass’ is available for purchase at theATC.com.au until 11.59pm, 16 March 2016. The ‘Golden Carnival Pass’ offers general admission entry to the remaining days of the Sydney Carnival including this Saturday’s raceday.

Racegoers can also take advantage of free event transport which is included with all valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members cards to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Rosehill Gardens. Trains will deliver attendees directly to the course

Patrons can support SpinalCure Australia via the annual Longines Golden Slipper Pin & Win promotion for the chance to win a Longines Master Collection Timepiece valued at over $4,000. Simply purchase a Longines Golden Slipper Day pin and scan the barcode on the back of the package.

Fashion forward guests are encouraged to dress in their race day finest and be part of The Fashion Chute presented by theRaces.com.au. Contestants can register at ‘The Fashion Chute’ photowall opposite the Members turnstiles from 11.00am. Preliminary finalists will be selected to compete in the final on The Championships Day 2, Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, for prizes including return Emirates flights to Europe and a Moët & Chandon VIP Experience in France.

The final presentation to announce the day’s best dressed, the Longines Prize for Elegance, will be judged based on elegance as an attitude, use of colour and material that demonstrates a strong understanding of design, keen eye for detail and style to stand the test of time.

On the track, ten races will be run with the $150,000 Provincial Championships Qualifier added to the fixture following the abandonment of Wednesday’s Gosford race day due to bad weather.

However all eyes will be on five Group 1 races, including the day’s namesake, the world’s richest two-year-old race, the $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper.

Undefeated Houtzen, trained by Toby Edmonds opened as the $4.40 TAB Fixed Odds favourite, despite drawing a wide barrier 14.

Manhattan Rain progeny, She Will Reign ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds) has also been heavily supported since markets opened . The Gary Portelli filly has been tested on a Heavy surface at two of her four career starts, one of which resulted in an outstanding 4 length win.

Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner, Catchy ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds) also boasts an unbeaten race record. The Tom Dabernig, David and Ben Hayes-trained filly showed resilience in her Group 1 win where she came from the tail of the field to win against the best juveniles in Melbourne.

Stablemate Formality will be partnered with Longines World’s Best Jockey, Ryan Moore. The son of Fastnet Rock ran third to Catchy in the Blue Diamond last start.

Despite four Group 1 winners from nine entrants in the field, punters have found it impossible to look past Chris Waller’s champion mare Winx who has opened as the short priced $1.15 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in the Group 1 $1 million China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes.

The world’s best race horse on turf will be looking for her 16th consecutive win.

Competition will come from the Longines World’s Best Sprinter, Chautauqua ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds), who will step up to 1500m for the first time in his 26 start career. The six-year-old from Hawkes Racing was narrowly denied victory in the Group 1 Canterbury BMW Stakes to Le Romain ($11.00 TAB Fixed Odds), who will also face the starter.

Gates Open at 11.00am with the first race at 12.15pm.

Rosehill Gardens has free high-capacity WiFi across the racecourse precinct.
