Kiwi And International Raiders Target Two Group Ones At Rosehill Gardens

Australia’s only 2400m Group 1 weight-for-age race and the clash of two super three-year-old fillies are just two features of the third week of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The $1.5 million Group 1-Kia Tancred Stakes sees UK runner Post Impressionist ($2.40 favourite on TAB with Tom Marquand aboard) looking to win a second feature in seven days and continue a stellar record for master British trainer William Haggas in Sydney.

And New Zealand’s best filly Orchestral for trainers Roger James & Robert Wellwood, who have secured gun jockey James McDonald, opening a $1.60 TAB favourite in the $750,000 Gr 1-Vinery Stud Stakes.

She takes on the top Godolphin Group 1 winner Zardozi ($4.20) trained by James Cummings and to be ridden by Tom Marquand.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, James Ross said international interest in the Sydney autumn continued to be strong.

“It’s pleasing to see Roger James and Robert Wellwood again bring the best of the Kiwi fillies to target another Vinery Stud Stakes after winning the race last year with Prowess," Mr Ross said.

“The Kia Tancred Stakes will also be an interesting renewal with Tom Kitten taking on older horses in Buckaroo, and Post Impressionist, who beyond Saturday could also target a Schweppes Sydney Cup."

Saturday’s 10-race card as part of the $42 million Sydney Autumn Carnival also features six other Group races.

Full fields for Saturday’s card can be found HERE and full TAB markets for the Rosehill Gardens meeting can be found HERE.

Post Impressionist holds favouritism ahead of Buckaroo ($4.60 on TAB) for trainer Chris Waller and jockey Tommy Berry, ahead of three-year-old Tom Kitten (James Cummings/Jamie Kah) at $7. Tom Kitten would be just the 12th three-year-old winner of the race and the first since 2013.

Ashrun is next in the betting at $7.50 ahead of Military Mission at $8.50 for last week’s TAB Golden Slipper winning trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, and to be ridden by Adam Hyeronimus.

Outside of the two favourites in the Group 1-Vinery Stud Stakes, Autumn Angel at $8 (Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman/Jamie Kah) and Kimochi at $9 (Gary Portelli/Rachel King) are next in markets.

Saturday’s racing program with 151 acceptances also sees two Group 2 and four Group 3 races run on the day. The $300,000 Gr 2-Toyota Forklifts Tulloch Stakes has a capacity 14-horse field as horses continue on a pathway to the $2m Gr 1-Australian Derby.

Wymark, looking for a fourth consecutive win, is a $3.10 TAB favourite for trainer Michael Freedman and jockey Tommy Berry, ahead of Kintyre ($4.20) for Gary Portelli and Jamie Kah.

In the $300,000 Gr 2-Canadian Club Emancipation Stakes, Makarena from Hawkes Racing and jockey Tim Clark is the $3.90 TAB favourite in a wide-open betting market.
