Football and racing stars join for Kia Friday Night Racing at Canterbury Park tomorrow at the next meeting of the Australian Turf Club’s record-breaking night racing season.
Featuring free racecourse entry, Kia Footy Fan Night will see players from the NRL’s Canterbury Bulldogs and the AFL’s GWS Giants meet with fans and hold special skills activities for boys and girls.
Kia – the major partner of the Australian Turf Club’s Night Racing season – are partners with both football teams.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs players Joe Stimson, Nick Meaney, Jack Cogger and Dean Britt, and GWS Giants stars Lachie Whitfield and Nick Haynes will be on-course and also help with the Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW’s bushfire relief fundraising campaign.
Bulldogs players will have a ball toss board for young fans whilst the GWS Giants will host an inflatable area where youngsters can practice AFL skills as well as netball drills adjacent to a Members and Merchandise Marquee.
Superstar jockey Hugh Bowman will meet fans at the Australian Turf Club’s Jockey Meet and Greet booth on the trackside lawn from 8 to 8.15pm, starting just after race 4.
Kia Night Racing at Canterbury Park also features more than 30 food stalls at the popular Foodies Markets, along with free family activities spread across the course at the front of the grandstand.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said the Club was delighted to join with two of Australia’s most popular sporting codes for the local community.
“Kia Friday Night Racing has become one of Sydney’s most popular Friday night activities during the school holidays and these players from the Canterbury Bulldogs and GWS Giants add even more to a great night of racing and entertainment,’’ Mr Barkley said.
Kia General Manager Marketing Dean Norbiato said “Being a partner of the Australian Turf Club, GWS Giants and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, we are incredibly excited to host the KIA Footy Fan Night at Canterbury Park, giving racegoers and footy fans the opportunity to have some fun, test their skills and meet their sporting heroes.
“Kia Friday Night Racing at Canterbury Park has attracted record crowds with thousands of families and members of the local community turning out every week for the free entry, entertainment and foodie markets which we are delighted to support.”
