Kensington Winners - Tips For Wednesday 5th July

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Kensington meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM PRECISE AIR PLATE (1150 METRES)

12. Sicilian has a wide gate but she’s a go forward horse and if she finds an on pace spot without too much trouble this looks her race. Well supported first-up but bumped into a promising filly in Estriella. Sure to take plenty of catching.

Dangers: 10. Virtual Legend has trialled up quite nicely with two hitouts though the latest was a month ago. Draws well and might have the last shot at them. Check betting for a push. 9. Trapeze Pleasure made a handy debut at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, where he finished close up over 900m. Drawn a lot softer this time around and the extra trip should suit. One to keep an eye on. 6. Listentozou started in the market at his only start at Sandown a month ago and had a bit of a checkered run early in the straight. Would have liked to see a bit more late but open to improvement and state switch is interesting.

How to play it: Sicilian WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Sicilian runs second at Gosford on June 22

Race 2 - 1:25PM DRINKWISE PLATE (1150 METRES)

3. Pereille has been a beaten favourite in all six starts for six placings and is back as a gelding this time around. He’s trialled well, particularly the latest, and now it comes down to how much he wants to win. Probably just needs a shade of luck in running and he has his chance.

Dangers: 10. Speymalt looked the winner when she burst through to hit the lead on debut here last month only to be swamped late by Konasana. Not as well drawn this time but a repeat effort has her in the finish. 8. Ravisher had no luck at all in the same race when a firmer in betting. She sat wide throughout so was entitled to weaken a little. Fitter and drawn to be a big improver. 11. There There has been placed in all three starts in Victoria and as favourite each time. Fitter for two trials in Sydney and has gate one and a claim so she stays under notice.

How to play it: Pereille WIN ($1.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Pereille runs third in a Hawkesbury trial on June 19

Race 3 - 2:00PM OLE KIRK @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Hellavadancer might have beaten one home first-up but she was under two lengths from the winner and worked home well from last behind Bunker Hut. Fitter for that and the sting out is handy for her, if she can be in touch on the bend she’s right in this.

Dangers: 5. Venelope showed promise in her first preparation which ended with a maiden win at Warwick Farm on Australia Day. Trialled a couple of times and while she likely gets back she should be hitting the line hard fresh. 1. Demitasse drops in grade after he was run down by Strombus here a few weeks ago and goes up 2.5kg after the claim. Had his chance to win that race but is hard to fault on the score of consistency. 7. Zip On By is an up and comer who chases a hat-trick after nice wins at Kembla and Newcastle and could easily measure up.

How to play it: Hellavadancer WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 - 2:35PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

5. Allasandra is charging through the grades this preparation and is effective on all ground. Form through her Newcastle win is excellent then sprinted nicely when the gap came to win over 1400m here last month. Drawn to effect again and claim a plus. Hard to beat.

Dangers: 10. Principessa was a shade disappointing in the same race when favourite, she just hit that flat spot again before rallying late to run fourth. Has a weight swing in her favour, is consistent, and it’s a matter of if she can find the line. Has another chance to break through. 6. Anagain is a similar type who has also only won once but she’s always around the mark. Down a notch in class after an even effort behind Vienna Princess at Rosehill. No excuses from the draw. 3. Zorocat is the likely leader you’d imagine and if she produces her game second at Warwick Farm from two starts ago she could take catching. Also contested the Vienna Princess race and weakened after sitting handy. Each-way.

How to play it: Allasandra WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Allasandra wins at Kensington on June 14

Race 5 - 3:10PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Rhythmic Pulse has the right set up to give a big sight up on the pace despite carrying top weight. Won a similar race here in May and did a great job when run down late by Star Spirit at Canterbury off a wide gate. Go well.

Dangers: 3. Poseidon Ruler is racing well without winning since taking out a BM68 at Newcastle in April. Honest effort in the Wauchope Cup last time out and if he gets the right sort of run should be somewhere in the finish. 4. Super Friendship couldn’t have done any more at his first run since coming from Hong Kong when winning at Gosford last month. Natural step up for him here, interesting to see where he settles off the wide gate but have to keep him in the mix. 5. Ceasefire had his chance when touched out by Rising in the Aberdeen Cup at Muswellbrook. Draw against him here but he can roll forward and is an each-way chance.

How to play it: Rhythmic Pulse E/W ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

She’s Contrary runs second at Lismore on June 20

Race 6 - 3:45PM RACING FOR GOOD ON JULY 29 HANDICAP (1550 METRES)

2. Camaguey is fitter for two handy runs back in Saturday company with some strong form lines around him. Made some late ground behind Attractable last time and was close up to Resonator and Semana before that. Chance with any luck.

Dangers: 9. Invincible Legend has been freshened up since quite a strong win at Kembla six weeks ago and this isn’t beyond his reach. Tickover trial last week was okay over 1200m and he should find a nice spot from an inside gate. Every chance to measure up. 8. The Replicant was placed behind Overriding first-up then a shade disappointing when well supported at Warwick Farm last week. Backs up and capable of better. 3. Highballer is mixing form but from the inside alley has claims if he can run up to his second to Flashing Steel over this trip at Canterbury two runs back.

How to play it: Camaguey E/W ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Camaguey’s last start at Rosehill on June 17

Race 7 - 4:20PM TAB HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Passeggiata holds the key to this race given we know she’s a speedster who will lead and make them chase her. Opened up a big lead fresh on the course proper and held on to win. Down in class here so up 6kg but will lead and it comes down to how well her speed can be harnessed.

Dangers: 14. Spicy Hotpot didn’t run up to expectation first-up behind Bubba’s Bay here but she’s much better than that and the sting out of the ground would be in her favour. Wouldn’t surprise to see her in the finish somewhere. 8. Pinnace is up from Victoria where she’s been racing okay in similar sort of company. Was a $13 chance at Sandown last time and sat on speed to be narrowly beaten. Stays under notice. 1. Omni Man again draws wide but has speed and overcame a tricky draw to beat Insurrection at 1000m first-up before a midfield finish to the same horse at 1100m. Keep in mind as he could get across and stalk.

How to play it: Passeggiata WIN ($1.85 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Passeggiata wins at Randwick on June 10
