Kensington Winners - Tips For Wednesday 1st September

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Kensington meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 1:25PM 1ST CROP MAGNA GRECIA FOALS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. Profondo might be a high priced yearling but he has looked the part in his trial wins, albeit on the synthetic, over shorter trips. Shows a turn of foot and starting off at 1400m is ideal. Hard to beat if he runs up to his trials. Read trainer Richard Litt's comments here.

Dangers: 1. Money From The Sky was a shade slow away on debut at 1250m here and found himself last before winding up late out wide to be narrowly beaten. Sure to relish the extra ground and is a serious danger. 3. Leen Fox finished a bit over a length behind Money From The Sky in that race and he gets the blinkers on here. Fitter and open to improvement. 2. Greater Harlem started favourite in the same race and seemed to have his chance though also not beaten far. Awkward gate again too but a little better off at the weights. Worth another look.

How to play it: Profondo WIN ($2.25 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Profondo wins a Warwick Farm trial on August 17

Race 2 - 2:00PM BUY @ IRISH SALES ONLINE HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

2. Dream Runner brings new form lines into this staying contest and he measured up to this level running fifth at 1800m here two weeks ago. He warmed up late from last in that race and while up quickly in trip the small field suits and he’s a good chance.

Dangers: 4. Terwilliker chased Harpo Marx home two starts ago then led last time at this tip and boxed on for second behind a surprise winner. Doesn’t win out of turn but this is as good a chance he’ll get for the moment. Hard to beat. 5. True Marvel is racing very well without winning this time in and made it four placings on end with a close call at Newcastle over 2900m last start. Good effort in a similar race to this prior and is one of the chances. 3. Accountability had his chance in the same race as Terwilliker last time and weakened. Not going as well as he can but should he find form he could surprise.

How to play it: Dream Runner WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 3 - 2:35PM HEINEKEN HANDICAP (1150 METRES)

1. Warrior Hero was narrowly beaten here on debut then enjoyed a successful Brisbane winter campaign. Gelded since then and liked his latest trial. Drawn nicely and the claim helps, would be surprised if he’s not in the finish.

Dangers: 6. Journalism raced outside the leader and fought on to post a game debut win at Hawkesbury, albeit by a small margin. Fitter and expect he will be up on the pace again and hard to get past. 3. Flying Crazy scored an amazing debut win on this track then led and was run down at Hawkesbury up to a Class 1. Perhaps he’s not a front runner and has to be respected based on his first-up effort. 7. Best Side showed some promise in his first prep and wasn’t far off Warrior Hero on debut. Fitter for two trials, has James McDonald to ride. Check betting for a pointer.

How to play it: Warrior Hero E/W ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Warrior Hero runs third in a Randwick trial on August 20

Race 4 - 3:10PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1550 METRES)

3. Majella backed up a solid first-up run here with a nice win at Newcastle. No luck at all in a Midway last time, going to the line virtually untested in a close fourth. Suited here and loves dry tracks. Should go close.

Dangers: 1. Amoretti shapes as a big improver after having cardiac arrhythmia in his failure at Randwick last month. Has trialled since then and best form is good enough to be competitive here so sharp improvement won’t surprise. 2. Come Along ran a nice fourth behind Majella two starts ago then handy effort on a heavy track last week beaten just over a length. Conditions suit better here and he’s an each-way chance. 7. Estreet is straight out of maiden class after his last to first win here almost a month ago. Not sure how he will measure up but have to respect that McDonald rides and he’s drawn well.

How to play it: Majella WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Majella runs fourth at Randwick on August 21

Race 5 - 3:45PM VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

9. Morioka is a very interesting runner, a stakes placed maiden filly from the leading stable first-up on the back of a very easy trial win and scratched from a maiden yesterday. Draws well and she wouldn’t be in this race if there wasn’t an opinion of her.

Dangers: 6. Silhouette was a drifter in betting but hit the line strongly first-up behind what looks a smart one in Jal Lei. Fitter and draws a lot better this time. Definite chance. 2. Ruby Tuesday is well established at this level and a little better and she’s been freshened up since a solid effort in a BM88 in early July. Can be a bit scratchy at the start but if she’s more than capable of going close here. 3. Sequana made some good late ground first-up behind Jal Lei into third but probably concedes a big start again from the gate. Each-way claims.

How to play it: Morioka WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Morioka wins a Gold Coast trial on August 16

Race 6 - 4:20PM EARTHLIGHT @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

6. Super Contender is a big watch first-up since a tie-back operation after failing at his only run last prep when well supported. He’s promised a bit and always trials quite well. Look for some support and if it comes he’s likely to run very well.

Dangers: 8. Jojo Was A Man has started favourite at all three starts to date and just found it too sharp when resuming two weeks ago. Extra 200m is a plus and draws soft so expect to see him lift. 5. Charretera appreciated getting back onto a good track when he was beaten a length at Kembla in BM78 grade. Down a notch here and strikes another dry track so he’s an each-way hope. 1. Rustic Steel had the favours when winning here two starts back then not disgraced with 61kg in track record time at Kembla. Capable of bouncing back.

How to play it: Super Contender E/W ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Super Contender runs second in a Rosehill trial on August 26

Race 7 - 4:55PM TAB HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Happy to stay with 9. Escape Artist who has been in close finishes at this track at her last few starts. Nice to see her settle a little closer last time and with a little more pressure here it should suit her strong finishing style. Go well again.

Dangers: 5. Duchess sat on the speed and won that race so is a logical threat. Worse off at the weights by 2kg but has that racing style that will see her very competitive again. 1. Nikohli Beagle has regained form back onto a dry track at his last couple and is down in grade on a closing fifth behind Destination a few weeks back. Will likely get back but sure to be running on strongly. 8. Sky Command was brilliant winning her first two starts from the front on heavy tracks then up in class and onto a good track she wasn’t as effective in the Rosebud. If she leads here she could take some running down.

How to play it: Escape Artist E/W ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Escape Artist runs third at Kensington on August 18
