Kembla Grange Winners - Tips For Saturday 27th July

By Jack Webster

Tips and race by race preview by Jack Webster for Saturday’s Kembla Grange meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 12:15PM 2024 RACING NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS 3YO MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

4. Major Look put in a decent effort last start, placing third at Newcastle despite being boxed out and checked at crucial stages of the race. He finished well and should put in another strong performance here

Dangers: 8. Monte Tiana has been improving lately, running well in her last two starts. She finished strongly in her most recent start here a week ago and will be fitter for it. Better track conditions will be ideal, and she should go close. 5. Ramius showed promise in her last run at Newcastle with a late burst in the race. Fitter for the 10-day turnaround, she is worth keeping safe. 2. Can Expect Greater is one to watch here placing her last two starts. Has drawn a good alley and capable of improvement.

How to play it: Major Look WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 12:50PM KEMBLA GRANGE SUPPORT EQUIMILLION PROVINCIAL MDN (1500M)

3. Webejamin is third up here and has shown promise since her debut, running second in two of her first three starts. Excuses can be made for her last run, but she can certainly improve this time.

Dangers: 6. Bellascent tried hard in her last start at Newcastle but faded in the closing stages of the race. She will be fitter this time, and a drop in distance along with a good barrier will work in her favour. 4. Mega Fight has been looking for a win for a while now, placing in 6 of her last 7 starts. Hard to ignore here, she is deserving of a win and should go close again. 2. Monty Be Quick is another who has been working towards a win for a while now. Had every chance last start when narrowly beaten at Newcastle over 1600m. Worth considering.

How to play it: Webejamin WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 1:25PM BECOME AN ITC MEMBER TODAY CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

5. Everybody Rise ran an even race last start at Hawkesbury in a strong time race, which has since produced two subsequent winners. Third up here and looking to improve, with better conditions expected to suit.

Dangers: 8. Hooligan Tommy last raced in the Group 1 Derby at Randwick, a race that wasn’t suited for him, but he showed promise in his prior starts over shorter distances. He’s been kept fresh and is first up here after an impressive trial win at Rosehill. He is a definite chance. 3. Lavalier raced well on debut last start at Newcastle sitting midfield and finishing strong. Can see her being competitive here. 4. Jamarni had a sound debut and did his best work later in the race to finish fourth. Longer distance should suit.

How to play it: Everybody Rise WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:00PM THE GONG SPRING CARNIVAL IS COMING F&M MAIDEN (1300 METRES)

2. Jawharat Dubai is due to strike after placing seven times in her last seven starts. She was first past the post last start at Hawkesbury but lost due to a protest. All signs point to her being competitive this race. One of the main threats.

Dangers: 5. Sharpen the Knives has three seconds after resuming from spell and is looking to strike. She’s drawn a good which will play in her favour and might just provide the edge she needs in this race. 1. Dream Baby ran an impressive trial at Rosehill behind Wings Of Desire, who then won at Hawkesbury. He has drawn barrier one here, and if he can replicate his trial performance, he should go close. 9. Elegant Artist showed signs of improvement resuming this campaign but fell short Warwick Farm first up. Capable to improve here.

How to play it: Jawharat Dubai WIN ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 2:35PM JOIN THE WARRA CLUB TODAY BM64 HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

3. Tenniel is coming off the back of two commanding victories, where she led and controlled the race throughout. Stepping up to 2400m for the first time, if she can build on her previous performances, she can make it three here.

Dangers: 4. Majorian from the same stable has also had back-to-back victories her last two starts but will be challenged with a jump up in distance. 11. Dubai Showgirl looks close to win after her last two starts. Showing promise and could be ready to strike here with better track conditions. 8. Whisker To Whisker ran well in her last start at Newcastle over 2200m. She’s drawn the inside barrier here and her run last week will serve as a well-prepared setup for this race.

How to play it: Tenniel WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 3:15PM JIM’S MOWING BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Calmer Karma had seen great success in his last five starts before his spell, boasting three wins and two placings over 1200m. Dropping in distance to 1000m for the first time may suit him, and he performs best on a good track.

Dangers: 6. Mafia was very impressive first up, winning at Wyong, but disappointed in her last start at Randwick. She is looking to return to her previous form here and should be competitive in what appears to be an easier race. 11. River Frost is in form, coming off a easy win first up at Moruya two weeks ago. She hasn’t done much wrong in races prior to her spell, with four placings and a win. She should be among the top finishers here and has every chance. 5. Spinosaurus had an even effort at Canberra two weeks ago, he won his first two races back from his spell and looks to bounce back here at a distance and track condition that favours him.

How to play it: Calmer Karma WIN ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 3:55PM JIM’S MOWING MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

13. Struff was unlucky last start here, being boxed in during the closing stages and not finding the run she needed. She has seen success at this track before and performs best on a firmer track. Drawn well here, she will be one of the main threats in this race.

Dangers: 9. Cohesive is a track talent who won here with an impressive late burst two starts ago. She was caught off guard from a wide barrier last start and struggled to get involved in the race despite pressing on towards home. Drawn in another wide barrier here, but she should be kept in the mix regardless. 7. Close Encounter, like Struff, didn’t get the run he was hoping for last start, as he didn’t find space at a crucial part of the race. A better barrier and improved conditions here will suit him. 2. Last Straw is first up here and saw success when resuming here last time and has won at the distance in the past. Anticipate she’ll perform well with a fresh start.

How to play it: Struff WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 8 - 4:30PM JIM’S MOWING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

5. Inception has improved greatly since her debut, coming off a strong win at Hawkesbury last start. While there is plenty of work to do from the outside barrier, she will likely look to find the lead early. She should be in the finish here.

Dangers: 3. Luconi was faced with a difficult task on debut but was still able to be effective winning by two lengths. She’s drawn a wide barrier again which not prove an issue with similar tactics here but taking on the task of stepping up from 1200m to 1500m will prove a challenge. 8. Rhodesian Diamond is third up and has been impressive this campaign since resuming, fresh from a victory last start at Mudgee. It’s a stronger race here, but she should remain in consideration. 2. Coastal Groove has had great form of late but seemed to struggle last start at Scone, leading most of the race but weakening towards the end. She should be kept in the mix, as any improvement in the track conditions will be in her favour.

How to play it: Inception WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds).
