John Schell's Tips For Wyong (Thursday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 1:15PM INSURANCE HOUSE F&M MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

1. Tautou finished in the placings in each of her three starts last year including the latest two in city grade. She’s been placed in both trials leading into this return and is primed to run well.

Dangers: 2. Cross Your Heart was placed on debut at this track and should be in the thick of things again with a repeat. 5. Ny Kee was place at Kembla Grange at her second start then failed at Newcastle before being spelled. She’s been placed in a recent trial leading into this and is worth some thought. 4. Lady Doris ran well on debut when finishing second and can be placed again.

How to play it: Tautou WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM COMMSYS CG&E MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

3. Luna Field is lightly raced with just the two starts to her name and she followed a debut fourth on the Kensington track at Randwick with a second at Gosford after leading last time out. She should push forward from the good draw in this and take plenty of running down.

Dangers: 1. Detendu has only had two starts and has finished second in each of them. He’s knocking on the door for a win and gets his chance in this. 10. Eastern Front has run well enough in two runs back from a spell to be considered a chance again in this. 4. Face The Tide is on debut but could sneak into the minor money.

How to play it: Luna Field WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM INFRABUILD PROVINCIAL MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES):

7. Bling Empire had two trials before debuting with a second at Taree when she ran home well to be beaten just under a length. The step up in distance should suit here.

Dangers: 4. Tom Cruising failed to fire at this track two starts ago but since showed a return to form with a third at Nowra. He has the talent to figure against these. 9. Piplup finished fourth in both of her starts late last year and she resumes from a spell here on the back of a couple of trials. 1. Himeros has been placed in both his starts since joining a new stable and is not out of this.

How to play it: Bling Empire WIN.

Race 4 - 3:05PM LINCOLN ELECTRIC CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

4. Gardenzio has been racing well of late with a couple of seconds and a last start fourth from his latest three starts. He led them up last time and battled on well enough at the finish. He should take up a prominent position again here and take running down.

Dangers: 3. Stanczyk had been placed in six of his first seven starts before breaking his maiden as a short-priced favourite at Tamworth last time out. Now that he’s won, he can go on with the job in this. 6. Silent Russian is fresh for this and could be placed. 8. Noble Tess is a last start winner that warrants some thought again here.

How to play it: Gardenzio WIN.

Race 5 - 3:40PM LEVELMASTER MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES):

8. Kervette ran well in good city grade races in a couple of runs early last year before being spelled. She resumed on the back of a couple of trials with a solid second at Wyong before being less than a length when finishing fifth at Newcastle.

Dangers: 4. Bo Katan has been placed in two of this three starts either side of a spell. He should have derived benefit from the first-up run and is a leading contender here. 9. Khaznah was placed on debut at this track and can make an impact again. 6. Rolling Magic was placed when resuming and a has minor claims again here.

How to play it: Kervette WIN.

Race 6 - 4:15PM BJ HOWES METALAND CONDITIONAL BM 68 HCP (1350 METRES):

3. Mickey’s Medal has only had five starts and has a win and three further placings to his name. He broke his maiden at Newcastle at start four then was spelled after a second at the same track. He’s had two trials to prepare for this.

Dangers: 1. Obvious Step had been racing well with a second at this track and a win at Newcastle before contesting better grade at Rosehill last time out when down the track. He can improve here. 2. Pad Thai has been racing well enough of late to be given thought against these, while 4. Oakfield Redgum should be improved by a first-up sixth at this track.

How to play it: Mickey’s Medal WIN.

Race 7 - 4:50PM COREGAS MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

2. Rush Hour was a winner on debut at the Gold Coast last year then finished midfield in the Skyline Stakes before being spelled. He resumed from a lengthy break with a solid enough fifth at Rosehill and will strip fitter for this.

Dangers: 3. Fludway has had two runs back from a spell for a third at Gosford and a last start sixth at this track. He’s drawn well here and should run well. 6. River Pat was big odds when she debuted at this track with a surprise win. She can be thereabouts again with a repeat of that effort. 1. Oakfield Triumph was placed in a couple of Randwick runs before being spelled and then resumed at this track with a solid enough effort earlier this month. He can improve in this.

How to play it: Rush Hour WIN.

Race 8 - 5:30PM MECHPRO SOLUTIONS AU BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

6. Mon Pierre was placed at Newcastle when resuming and has since been just behind the placings in a couple of city starts.

Dangers: 8. Azayaka has won two out of her last three starts at Muswellbrook and Goulburn and wasn’t beaten far at Gosford in between those efforts. She should run well again here. 7. Angara was placed last time out and gets a chance to figure prominently again with this race depleted by scratchings. 9. Lonhraki is resuming and is capable of sprinting well fresh.

How to play it: Mon Pierre WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 5 (8) Kervette.
Race 7 (2) Rush Hour.
