John Schell's Tips For Wyong (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:00PM WYONG LEAGUES GROUP PROVINCIAL MAIDEN (1350 METRES)

2. Namara had two trials before making her debut with a third on the Beaumont track at Newcastle and she then followed that up with another third at Newcastle at her only other start. She steps up in distance for this and only needs to overcome an awkward alley to be rated the one to beat. 1. Dream High was fitted for his debut with a number of trials, and he led them up before finishing seventh when beaten less than four lengths at Newcastle in September. He resumes here on the back of a quiet Hawkesbury trial and could sprint well fresh. 10. Star Venture ran well when second at Muswellbrook last time out and gets her chance to show up again here. 5. Ciao Bella Mia went down narrowly when second at Nowra when last produced and she has place claims here as well.

How to play it: Namara WIN.

Race 2 - 1:40PM CENTRAL COAST COMMUNITY NEWS CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

4. Azucar is on debut here and had three trials in August and September, winning the third of them. He’s since had another two trials in preparation for this and finished third in the latest of them at Warwick Farm. Joshua Parr takes the ride here and he should be primed to run well. 3. Money Team is having his first start for the Brad Widdup stable and is a recent trial winner at Rosehill. He’s been placed in four of his five starts and bears close watching here. 7. Firework won a trial before resuming from a spell with a second at this track. He hit the line well in that event and is worth plenty of thought here. 8. Khals has had two trials leading into this debut and was placed in each of them. He’s drawn well here and is poised to give a bold sight.

How to play it: Azucar WIN.

Race 3 - 2:15PM CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

11. Pilasso is on debut and has been fitted for this with four trials. Expect a forward display. 9. Milly Molly Mandy has had two recent trials to prepare for this debut and she’s shown enough to suggest she can make an impact. 1. Camilla has had two trials to prepare for her first race appearance and shouldn’t be underestimated. 4. Reasonable is a consistent mare that is rarely far from the action and finished second on the Beaumont track at Newcastle last time out.

How to play it: Pilasso WIN.

Race 4 - 2:50PM SKY RACING MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Tikiroo was second-up from a spell when racing away to score by a big margin at Taree at her latest run. That was just his fourth run in a race, and he looks like he will be suited by the extra distance here. 1. Prosperous Dragon had looked good in his trials before debuting with a solid third at this track and he then backed that up with an all-the-way win at Newcastle. He can give cheek again. 2. Monty Be Quick had excuses when down the track on the Beaumont at Newcastle last time out and has since had a solid trial. 9. Yamba’s Girl was placed at Taree at her last start and can figure again.

How to play it: Tikiroo WIN.

Race 5 - 3:30PM NBN NEWS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100 METRES)

1. Gran Caballo is an import on debut for the new stable here and was a winner in Ireland over a staying trip at just his third start. He’s had two trials to prepare for this and looked good in the most recent of them. 7. Ana Carolina ran well when resuming at Hawkesbury and backed that up with a last start second at Canterbury. 12. Sacro Catino was just behind Ana Carolina when they last clashed at Canterbury, while 9. Conaltri comes out of the same race in which he finished seventh.

How to play it: Gran Caballo WIN.

Race 6 - 4:10PM STAR 104.5 CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

1. Sunday Tycoon was first-up from a spell when he recovered from a bad start to score a strong finishing win just before Christmas. This is harder but he shows talent and is worth plenty of thought. 5. Savoldi was a Newcastle winner on debut then ran second at Muswellbrook before being spelled. He’s had a trial leading into this. 6. Turf Fever won well on debut at Port Macquarie, while 7. Stormfield has performed well in both runs since resuming.

How to play it: Sunday Tycoon EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:49PM NORAH HEAD SPORTIES BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

2. Norton Road led when a last start eighth in Midway grade at Randwick. He will find this an easier assignment and he’s won two from three at this track. 5. French Marine ran home well for a last start second at Kembla Grange and should run well again if he can repeat that from the wide draw here. 1. Gardenzio won at this track last March then was midfield in a Highway before a spell. He resumed with a midfield effort here and should be improved. 10. Canpikapony has failed to beat a runner home in two runs back from a spell but she is capable of sharp improvement here if she can run up to her Newcastle win at start three.

How to play it: Norton Road WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (4) Azucar.
Race 5 (1) Gran Caballo.

Best Value:
Race 6 (1) Sunday Tycoon.
