John Schell's Tips For Wyong (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:45PM CARLTON WYONG CUP CARNIVAL PROVINCIAL MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

4. Lonhreel has been placed in four of her seven starts. She resumed with a second at Tamworth when hitting the line well, and she should be in the finish of things again here if she runs up to her best.

Dangers: 7. Shine Like It Does has been placed in two of her four starts and she should figure prominently in this if she can run up to those efforts. 5. Oakfield Blue Bell finished third at this track when second-up from a spell. She should figure here with a repeat of that. 2. Legris hit the line well to finish second at Forbes at his latest start and his form before that was solid as well. He can give cheek here.

How to play it: Lonhreel WIN.

Race 2 - 1:20PM 2024 WYONG LEADING TRAINER KIM WAUGH C1 HANDICAP (1600M)

1. Let’s Go Johnny charged home to score at this track over 1200m when returning from a freshen-up back in June. He’s been placed in two of his three runs since then and looks ready to win again. The step back up to the 1600m here should suit.

Dangers: 7. Riley Park was third-up from a spell when finishing a solid fourth at Newcastle. He’s set to peak here and should run well. 8. Really Motivated has been placed in each of her latest two starts and she should figure in the money again here with a repeat of those efforts. 6. Lady Gold resumed from a spell with a third at Hawkesbury three starts ago, and while she has failed in both runs since then, she can improve sharply here.

How to play it: Let’s Go Johnny WIN.

Race 3 - 1:55PM LIZZIE JELFS PUNTERS CLUB 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

3. Embassy is a classy colt by I Am Invincible that has been placed in four of his five starts. He’s run very well in much better grade than he faces here and from the inside gate he looks to get the chance to break through with a maiden victory.

Dangers: 9. Lilac debuted on the Kensington track at Randwick in March when finishing fourth. She’s had two trials in preparation for this resuming run and has looked good in each of them. James McDonald is here for one ride and she looks primed to run well despite the wide gate. 10. Mermaid Cove is on debut and has performed well in three trials leading into this, while stablemate 11. Piperita is also on debut and has looked good in her two trials.

How to play it: Embassy WIN.

Race 4 - 2:30PM DOMELAND MONA LISA PRELUDE (1200 METRES)

1. Memoria is a well performed mare that is a five-time winner from 18 starts with another seven minor placings to her name. She hit the line well to score at Gosford in April, and looked good in a trial at Wyong before resuming with a third at Randwick and following that up with a seventh at Rosehill in Saturday grade. She looks placed to advantage in this.

Dangers: 2. Selfless Act ran well when returning with a second at Kembla Grange, then ran well again in city Saturday grade. This is easier. 3. Pajanti won a couple on end at Rosehill and this track earlier in the year. That form looks good for this. 6. Always In is handy at best and can be placed here.

How to play it: Memoria WIN.

Race 5 - 3:05PM 2024 WRC TRAINERS PREM WINNER P & P SNOWDEN HCP (1100M)

1. Sunday Tycoon has only had two starts and he debuted with a sound second at Newcastle, before a midfield effort at Canterbury. He’s drawn a wide gate here but has the ability to overcome that.

Dangers: 3. Luna Field has had two runs back from a spell and followed a resuming midfield effort at Newcastle with a second at Bathurst as an odds-on favourite when he had his chance. He’s been placed in three of five starts and must be respected here. 4. Phobos debuted at Gosford in April with a solid midfield effort and resumes here after two trials. He’s set to run well fresh here. 8. Be Quiet resumed with a sound performance at Warwick Farm and should strip fitter for that.

How to play it: Sunday Tycoon EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 3:45PM 2024 WRC JOCKEY PREM./LEADING APPR. ZAC LLOYD BM64 HCP (1350M)

4. Trapeze Pleasure hit the line well enough when narrowly beaten at this track when he was last produced. He won on the Beaumont track at Newcastle last October and has the talent to give this a shake.

Dangers: 12. Struff has performed well in each of her four starts back from a spell, and finished third at Kembla Grange at her latest outing. She’s drawn the rails here and should take plenty of beating. 2. Colombe D’Or has had some solid form in Victoria leading into this, and she looms as one of the leading contenders at her first run for the new stable. 16. Foolish hit the line well for a second at Muswellbrook three starts ago, then ran well at Taree before a midfield finish at Newcastle.

How to play it: Trapeze Pleasure EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:25PM STAR 104.5 WYONG CUP PRELUDE (2000 METRES)

8. Guzumped has been racing in good form, having followed a fifth at Warwick Farm with a third at that track. He’s finished fourth and second at Canterbury at his latest two starts and that form looks good for this event.

Dangers: 10. Let Me Reign scored a good win at Hawkesbury two starts ago, then followed that with a third as favourite at Warwick Farm. That form looks good for this event. 11. Doraskaya ran third at Wyong when resuming, then won well at this track last time out. She can figure again with a repeat of those efforts. 2. Made By Khan is handy at best and is capable of sharp improvement here.

How to play it: Guzumped WIN.

Race 8 - 5:05PM MAGIC MILLIONS RACING WOMEN BM64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

8. Braveheart is resuming from a spell here but is a city winner with plenty of upside. He’s drawn wide but has the talent to overcome that.

Dangers: 1. Incarcerated ram second on debut at Goulburn then wasn’t beaten far at Warwick Farm before winning his latest two starts at this track when leading all the way. He’s drawn the rails in this and there’s no reason he can’t go on with the job here. 3. Starmae resumes from a spell here on the back of two trial wins. She’s got a good record and should run well fresh here. 13. Russian Snitzel ran well when second at Canterbury at her latest start and she has the ability to give this a shake.

How to play it: Braveheart WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (1) Memoria.
Race 7 (8) Guzumped.

Best Value:
Race 5 (1) Sunday Tycoon.
