John Schell's Tips For Wyong Cup Day (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 12:50PM READY’S @ THE DOYLO SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

6. Yoshinobu debuted with a seventh of seven in the Silver Slipper at Rosehill earlier in the year. He was spelled after that and has since had two good trials leading into this first-up effort. Kerrin McEvoy sticks with him after being on in the trials and that’s a good pointer to his chances.

Dangers: 2. Miss Judas took on good grade opposition at the end of last year and ran well in both races. She since resumed at Kembla Grange with a third when beaten less than a length, and she should show up here based on those efforts. 9. Polymnia debuted with a fourth at Newcastle back in May, and since then has finished second in two Randwick trials leading into this first-up run. She is primed to run well. 8. Emballee has had two recent trials leading into this race debut, and she has shown enough to suggest she could make an impact.

How to play it: Yoshinobu WIN.

Race 2 - 1:25PM WYONG LEAGUES GROUP MIDWAY 4YO&UP MAIDEN (1350 METRES)

8. Classic Poetry has finished second in three of her nine starts, and comes into this on the back of a last start midfield Scone effort. She is knocking on the door for a win and gets her chance here.

Dangers: 7. The Bentley was second-up from a spell when running well with a second at Newcastle at his latest hitout. He’s drawn well here and should figure prominently. 4. Intruder failed to beat a runner home when last produced at Hawkesbury, but his form before that either side of a spell was sound and he’s drawn well here. 11. Irradiance wasn’t beaten far when third at Kembla Grange at her latest start and she only needs to run up to that to figure in the finish here.

How to play it: Classic Poetry WIN.

Race 3 - 2:05PM CENTRAL COAST COOLROOMS DA VINCI - 3&4YO BM64 HCP (1300M)

5. Rip Off resumed from a spell and justified favouritism to score a win at this track last month. She followed that up with a second at Hawkesbury when running well again, and only needs to have maintained that form in order to be hard to beat again here.

Dangers: 4. Weeping Woman won a couple on end at Canberra and Hawkesbury before leading at Canterbury last time out when finishing third. She’s racing well enough to give this a shake. 3. Draco’s Fire is resuming from a spell and he has a win and three placings from just the five starts. He comes into this on the back of a good trial and is worth plenty of thought. 6. Bit Of Banter is unbeaten from two starts and resumes here after a couple of good trials. She should give plenty of cheek again.

How to play it: Rip Off WIN.

Race 4 - 2:40PM BISHOP COLLINS CHARTERED ACCOUNT. SPRINGTIME BM68 (1200M)

6. I’m A Steel took on tougher opposition when failing to beat a runner home at Randwick two starts ago, then appreciated a drop in grade to score at Moruya. She’s drawn the rails here and should figure prominently again.

Dangers: 7. Maz Kanata finished midfield in a Midway at Randwick, before winning in good style at Goulburn when hitting the line well. She has solid claims with a repeat of that. 4. Fill A Promise has been racing well with five wins on the trot and has claims again, while 2. Edited By has a handy record and is worth including among the main chances.

How to play it: I’m A Steel EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:20PM HUNTER PETROLEUM PRODUCTS F&M BM68 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Aunty Rene hit the line well when third-up from a spell to score a strong win at Kembla Grange when last produced. She’s on the up and only needs to run up to that to be a contender again in this.

Dangers: 10. Noises resumed from a spell with a second at this track, then ran well again last time out when winning at Hawkesbury after racing on the speed. She is talented and can give cheek again. 9. No Second Thoughts has only missed a place once from seven starts, and warrants respect in this on the back of a last start Goulburn placing. 8. Killer Kerr ran second here when last produced and has bright place prospects again.

How to play it: Aunty Rene WIN.

Race 6 - 3:55PM CARLTON DRAUGHT PROVINCIAL BM64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

10. Kervette scored at this track as an odds-on favourite three starts ago, and since then has been beaten less than a length each time when third and second at Hawkesbury and Newcastle. She’s talented and looms as the one to beat while in her current form.

Dangers: 1. Doraskaya resumed with a third at this track, then hit the line well to score a win here last time out. She has returned from a spell in good order and can go on with the job in this. 3. Let’s Go Johnny knuckled down well late to score in a small field at his latest start, and another bold showing is on the cards. 5. Rush Attack won at Kempsey two starts ago, and went down narrowly when second at Newcastle at his latest outing. He can show up again here.

How to play it: Kervette WIN.

Race 7 - 4:35PM WYONG LEAGUES GROUP WYONG CUP (2100 METRES)

6. Etna Rosso was a winner at Warwick Farm before being spelled, then resumed with a strong third at Randwick before charging home out wide late to score a dominant Rosehill victory. He’s a horse on the up.

Dangers: 10. Medatsu has won two from two since resuming at Rosehill and Randwick. He’s up in distance here and should take a power of beating again. 8. Age Of Sail had been racing well with a string of placings before having his chance when a last start sixth at Randwick. 4. Manzoice was down the track in the Sydney Cup but resumed and ran a cracking race when second at Randwick. The step up in distance suits and he has the class to run well.

How to play it: Etna Rosso WIN.

Race 8 - 5:10PM SENPOS POINT OF SALE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Miss Couver has a win and three placings from eight starts and she resumes from a spell here. She’s had two trials leading into this and her only win was when first-up. She is primed to run well.

Dangers: 2. Braveheart won at double figure odds on the Kensington track when having his second race start, and he’s fresh for this and ready to run well. 1. Hezdarnhottoo was placed on the Kensington track on debut then won there before a sixth of sixth in the Kindergarten Stakes. He resumes here after two good trials and is worth plenty of thought. 4. Agenda Setter won at Hawkesbury when resuming and a repeat of that would have him in the finish of this.

How to play it: Miss Couver WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (6) Yoshinobu.
Race 6 (10) Kervette.

Best Value:
Race 4 (6) I’m A Steel.
