John Schell's Tips For Port Macquarie (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:40PM MCGRATH PROPERTY MANAGEMENT MIDWAY 3YO MAIDEN (1000M)

3. Formal has only had three starts and he’s been placed in one of them. He’s a former Godolphin galloper that is on debut for a new stable here and he only needs to have maintained his form to be rated the one to beat in this. 6. Turf Fever is a colt on debut and has looked good in a total of four trials. He ran second in the most recent of them at Newcastle and should be primed to run well in this. 8. Alideel debuted in good company at Scone earlier in the year and has had a trial leading into this return to racing. She’s drawn well here and bears close watching. 4. Royal Commodore is on debut and has had three trials, running second in the latest of them at Hawkesbury. He should run well.

How to play it: Formal WIN.

Race 2 - 2:20PM THE ENTERTAINMENT GROUNDS MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

9. Rockbarton Flash has only had the three starts and has been placed in two of them at Scone and on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. He ran second behind a handy galloper at his latest start and looks to have the ability to give this a shake. 6. Mr Crowing Moment has been placed in two of his five starts and he only needs to have maintained that form to be figuring in the placings again in this. 3. The Bentley ran fourth in the same race Rockbarton Flash contested last time out and should run well again with a repeat. 14. Real Magic was midfield at Quirindi on debut and she can show up here if she can show some improvement here.

How to play it: Rockbarton Flash WIN.

Race 3 - 2:55PM ALPENS B SAFE STORAGE & BUILDING SUPER MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

13. Play It Again had a number of trials either side of a break before making her debut with a fifth placing at Quirindi. She would have taken benefit from that hitout and there’s no reason she can’t go on with the job here and take plenty of beating. 8. Brutal Belle was placed at Coffs Harbour two starts ago and followed that up with a midfield effort at Scone behind a handy type. 3. Star Prediction is on debut for a new stable having had a trial at Rosehill in September. He should show up in this. 5. Rockbarton Angel has performed well in each of her three starts and can run well here at her first run back from a spell.

How to play it: Play It Again EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 3:30PM JACK’ED4X4 MAYOR'S CUP - CONDITIONAL BM68 (2000 METRES)

2. Punjabi Landing is a winner with three victories to his name from just the seven starts. He pressed forward and did the job well to score on a heavy track at Ipswich last time out and while he’s back to a drier track here he still looks the one to beat. 5. Like Lukey has struck winning form of late having won her latest three starts in a row in good fashion. She can continue to improve. 7. Hunter Bred backed up recent good form to win well on the Beamont track last time out, while 8. Gulf Of Tomini comes out of the same race as Hunter Bred and can be placed.

How to play it: Punjabi Landing WIN.

Race 5 - 4:05PM ROCOCO BY DE BORTOLI PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Etude was a Muswellbrook winner on debut and followed that up with a resuming second at Taree when running well again. 5. Cutepi resumed with a strong Newcastle win and should be thereabouts again with a repeat. 3. Sneaky Sofia has a handy record with a win and three placings from four starts, while 2. Nightcapped has shown talent and can improve on her latest effort.

How to play it: Etude WIN.

Race 6 - 4:41PM CARLTON DRY CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Rush Hour is a well performed galloper that has two wins and a minor placing to his name from just the nine starts. He resumed in the Wyong Magic Millions 3&4YO event and led them up before finishing sixth of seven. This is easier and he gets his chance to break back into the winners circle. 6. Heir Apparent has been racing in fine form with wins in two of his latest three starts and he can make an impact again. 2. Broadway Bouncer resumed with a seventh at Newcastle but is better than that at his best and he can improve sharply here. 8. Single Touch had been racing well with a couple of Grafton wins before a third there and a last start sixth at Ballina. He can figure against these.

How to play it: Rush Hour WIN.

Race 7 - 5:16PM WIN NETWORK F&M BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Scholl Deep is a well performed Kermadec mare that has had 11 starts for two wins and five placings. She won at Newcastle and then ran fourth there before being spelled and has had a trial leading into this on the Beaumont track when not beaten far. 1. Lady Soames has four wins to her name from 12 starts and won at Muswellbrook before being spelled. She was a winner at Tamworth in July and has had two trials to prepare for this return to racing. 7. River Pat has a consistent record with a win and four more placings from just the eight starts and she’s performed well when finishing second in each of her latest two starts. 6. One Kind was a winner at Newcastle four starts ago and if she can repeat that here she should be hard to hold out.

How to play it: Scholl Deep WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 5 (7) Etude.
Race 7 (4) Scholl Deep.

Best Value:
Race 3 (13) Play It Again.
