In a drama charged last 200m Aylmerton earned himself a Golden Slipper berth with an upset win though most eyes were on Hugh Bowman, who was thrown from Performer as he was winding up.
Find out what the jockeys made of their runs in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
Andrew Adkins (Aylmerton): Cantering to the gates my first time on the horse he gave me a very good feel. Even parading behind the barriers, he was nice calm and relaxed just how I like a horse like that. Drawn barrier one he was quite settled in the barriers.
“When he bounced out he was straight into a rhythm. He travelled very well, nice and comfortable for him, it was a nice tempo for him but when I skipped back up the inside he was still very raw and he was unsure having horses to the outside as he hadn’t had that before. Gee when he got into a rhythm he sprinted away with a nice little win there.''
Aylmerton outguns Ef Troop to win the Todman Stakes at Royal Randwick
Corey Brown (Ef Troop): “He ran really well. He’s a bit the same as the stablemate (Outback Barbie), he didn’t know where they were going in the straight. He’ll improve heaps going into the Slipper.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Ragged Rascal): “Good run.”
Glyn Schofield (Legend Of Condor): “It was a good effort. He had to do a bit of work early. I would have preferred to have had a sit on him but he still toughed it out.”
Kerrin Mcevoy (Plague Stone): “He didn’t get any cover, he laid out a bit around the corner but he stuck on okay.”
Tye Angland (Exceltic): “They went too steady for where I was.”
Tim Clark (Paquirri): “Had a wide run but he has probably had enough.”
Blake Shinn (Tchaikovsky): “Good run. He showed good improvement.”
Hugh Bowman (Performer): Fell - Not Available
