Jockey Quotes - Sweet Embrace Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Tab Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Jason Collett (Within The Law): “Nothing did at all. I got squeezed pretty heavily from the gate, I had no forward momentum whatsoever, I was wide. I sort of got the back of Snitzel Miss and then I was working on the turn and wanted to get going and get her into it a bit earlier today than last start and I was able to achieve that, but until I saw Gai’s runner I thought ‘I might have a bit too much work to do here’.

“She’s just raw and she keeps raising the bar every time. It was restricted company the last three starts but just the way she keeps attacking the line, you’ve got to love that about her. And Scott’s made the reference before like Yankee Rose, she’s very similar attributes about her.

“They’re a couple of nice horses and she just keeps lifting the bar. She had a lot of work to do there and nothing went right from the get-go, really, but she still managed to come out on top.

“Probably from the 600m I was wide and never really where I wanted to be but I knew I needed to be there to give her that chance. I knew she would be strong late. I wanted to get her going a bit earlier today than last start and make sure she was strong late. She was strong late but she probably didn’t get to see the Gai runner (Bellazaine) until the last bit which was just about too late.”

Tim Clark (Bellazaine): “She was excellent. Game in defeat. She has gone really well there.”

James McDonald (Snitzel Miss): “Very good run. She will improve with time.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Memo): “Nice run. I think there is improvement to come with her off the back of that.”

Ronan Whelan (Artistic Venture): “Ran a cracker from the draw. We decided to ride her quietly. She came home well. She got a little bit tight on the line. Might have finished a little bit closer with a complete clear run. She is a filly with a future.”

Reece Jones (Open Secret): “Had the perfect run in transit. Jumped well. Easy to do anything with. Probably just didn’t quicken up like I thought she would today.”

Josh Parr (Price Tag): “She reached boiling point today. I’d say she has had enough.”

Tyler Schiller (Karinska): “Probably didn’t work out how I wanted today. I was hoping to get up and around especially in the straight. When the pace came out, she got a bit up and keen and there was no out. So I had to go in. I thought her last bit was very good. I wouldn’t drop off her going 1400/1600m. Will be very competitive.”

Jay Ford (Deep Affection): Provided no comment

Ashley Morgan (Autumn Blonde): “Terrific run. Ran really well. Travelled sweetly. It is a shame we got checked on the line. She runs third and picks up a bit of black type. I’m sure she will get it.”

Alysha Collett (You're The Choice): “She did too much with the blinkers on today.”

Nash Rawiller (Wootton Lass): “Lovely filly. I think she felt her shins today.”
