Jockey Quotes - Spring Champion Stakes

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their runs in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick.

Tye Angland (Ace High): “Went forward again today, we thought there was going to be a bit more pressure. He just had a beautiful run and I thought I would make it a staying test. I was on empty late, but the easy sectionals early that I got right paid dividends. Not many people would know I missed my brother’s wedding today for this fella.”

Ace High’s Spring Champion Stakes win.

Blake Shinn (Tangled): “Great run. Pace was dictated by the leader and didn’t suit my horse. But he ran a great race, full credit to the winner but with a little bit more luck he probably nearly gets him.”

Brenton Avdulla (Sully): “He ran terrific. From where he drew he got back but if he had drawn a gate he probably ends up third or fourth and probably wins the race.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Sanctioned): “He missed the start which had me going to plan B, we were going to go forward. He was back last and racing a little bit keen because of the steady tempo. He did a good job to run on and run fourth so a nice effort after bungling the start.”

Tim Clark (Coral Coast): “She had a nice run outside the leader and eventual winner but was beaten before the turn and has possibly come to the end of her prep.”

Jason Collett (Colesburg): “Good run in transit but just unable to quicken when they went.”

Glyn Schofield (Astoria): “Unlucky, he didn’t get any cover the whole way but ran credibly.”

Larry Cassidy (Surprise Bullet): “Little bit tough for him today but the trip away will be the making of him later on.”

Christian Reith (Langley): “He travelled nice in the run, just probably not quite strong enough at the 10 furlongs at the moment.”

Sam Clipperton (Dissolution): “Just raced like a horse that’s probably come to the end of his campaign. Had a lovely run, travelled well but he just seemed like a horse that’s had enough.”
