Jockey Quotes - Roman Consul Stakes

A double for Queensland trainer Steve O'Dea after the promising Sesar matched his older brother Doubt Defying with an impressive win.

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts in the Group 2 Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Jason Collett (Sesar): “Steve (O’Dea) said to me to get cover. He was probably a touch afraid that he may overrace if he didn’t have cover.

“I was quite happy when I got to the turn and I had caught them back up. I saw the back of the favourite (Sandbar). I had plenty of horse and I knew he was going to be strong late.

“He’s by Sebring so a bit of give in the ground but don’t take that away from him. He is a lovely horse.”

Corey Brown (Sandbar): “He ran good. Again he’s run into one better on the day. Had a great run, travelled up like he was the winner, but just ran into one better horse on the day.”

Andrew Adkins (Aylmerton): “Very disappointing. I got outside leader but as soon as Jonker came up outside him he hit a brick wall. Stopped completely out of it. Back to the drawing board. Might want to take the blinkers off maybe.”

Jay Ford (Jonker): “Good effort. Month between runs and missing that Rose he just over raced the whole way. When we tried to take a sit he raced keenly through out. He’s done a good job to hold on for fourth.”

Tye Angland (Legend Of Condor): “He was tired late. Muddling run race and they stacked up big time at the point of the corner. I got him out wide and he let down good for a furlong but that last furlong he was tired.”

James McDonald (Spin): “Good run. Probably wasn’t as effective in the ground as I thought he would be but he ran an okay race.”

Tommy Berry (Charge): “He just went way too keen. I probably should have let him roll around them in the end just to keep his momentum, I wouldn’t say he was 100% comfortable in going either but I think it was more to do with how hard he pulled.”

Josh Parr (Chabreet): “He’s still doing things wrong. He has a lot to learn.”
