Jockey Quotes - Randwick Guineas

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $1,000,000 The Agency Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Zac Lloyd (Linebacker): “It was obviously a big privilege to ride Broadsiding last start, but Linebacker today, it's not a bad exchange, it panned out perfectly.

“I just wanted to work with Linebacker, not against him today.

“He broke well, he had a nice bunny in Tenbury Wells, that's his asset, his big long stride, and he sustained his gallop nicely.

“Well, my pre-race strategy was to get both Broadsiding and Swiftfalcon uncomfortable because I feel Linebacker is a superior miler, and if we left it to a sit and sprint, they're probably sharper than him.

“He got to me at about the 200m, and I thought oh it's a bit sooner than I would have liked, but when he got to about a neck, my bloke held him quite comfortably the last hundred.

“It was a very good effort and I’m super pleased for both John and Tom."

James McDonald (Broadsiding): “He went really well. Very happy with him. Just found it a bit tough to peg back the winner.”

Tyler Schiller (Swiftfalcon): “I thought he has gone enormous. We lobbed the spot we wanted early and then when the pressure went mid-race, we had to relieve our position with everyone dropping to the fence, getting strung out. But I thought he has done a terrific job. Has made a long, sustained run and his last 50m, he was still building. Will appreciate a weight drop.”

Tom Sherry (Firm Agreement): “They went quick and had us out of his comfort zone. Would have liked to have seen him do a little bit more late.”

Josh Parr (Depth Of Character): “Performed well. The 1400m and back a peg might be his go”

Martin Harley (Our Benefactor): “I was pretty pleased with that run. The tempo wasn’t great but we had to go back, switch off and he ran the distance well and will come on again from that.”

Tommy Berry (Tenbury Wells): “He was too keen with the blinkers and outclassed in that field.”

Jason Collett (Aeliana): “She was in a nice enough spot behind Broadsiding but just struggled to make that ground when we needed to at a crucial point on straightening. Got put back in behind them. Maintained that position in the straight. Maybe looking for a bit further now.”
