Jockey Quotes - Polytrack Provincial-Midway Championships Final

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $500,000 Polytrack Provincial-Midway Championships Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Nash Rawiller (Kinloch): “He did it the hard way. To his credit he relaxed really good in the run and was able to just stalk outside the stablemate (Rustic Steel) there and fortunately for me he pulled out to make his run 550-600m from home and basically was able to suck behind him.

“I thought I was a really good chance of winning the race turning for home. Also knew that we hadn’t had the easiest of runs but I’d trialled this horse before and I knew when I really needed something he’d find. Fortunately that last three hops, I thought Kerrin (McEvoy on 2nd horse Kiss Sum) was going to get us, but he did find something for me.

“Just a good effort by the horse, great training performance. We all know Kris Lees is right up there in the top echelon of trainers but races like this are great. It gives a bloke like him a chance to compete against a more even lot of horses and this horse was really well placed today. His stablemates were probably a little bit better found in the market, but I’ve trialled this bloke before and knew he had something up his sleeve so to come and win a nice race like this is good to get the job done.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Kiss Sum): “Very good run. When he got to the outside he really powered late. Only needed another four strides and he would have gotten there.”

Tim Clark (French Marine)
: “Toughed it out really well on speed.”

Hugh Bowman (Rustic Steel): “Ran a great race. Delighted with him.”

Damien Oliver (Never Talk): “Ran well. Was off the bit a long way from home chasing. Her best part was close to the line. Feels like she wants a bit further at that tempo.”

Regan Bayliss (Travest): “Ground was testing.”

Tom Sherry (Astero): “Had a terrific run. Perfect spot. Just struggled late in the going.”

Rachel King (Poseidon Ruler): “Very brave effort.”

James McDonald (Great News): “She was brave. Really happy with her.”

Jeff Penza (Barossa Rosa): “Heavy going was too much for her.”

William Pike (Mayrose): “Wasn’t her day.”

Brenton Avdulla (Grande Rumore): “Didn’t track well on the ground.”

Craig Williams (Pippali): “She was courageous today. She hated the ground. Still tried.”

Tommy Berry (Confessed): “Very gallant. Ran home well.”

Ellen Hennessy (Sally Pops): “Tried her hardest.”

Andrew Gibbons (Tawfiq Lass): “Ran as good as she could.”
