Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Bisley Workwear Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Jason Collett (Firestorm): “She was really well today, she was in a great frame of mind and even in the run, albeit three pairs back, moderate tempo, I still felt I was going to be running on strongly.
“Makarena is obviously a good horse, sitting up outside the lead, dictating the speed. I was a little concerned, but she had that extra gear and when I got to them at the 150m, she just went on with it.
“That was pretty good.”
Firestorm wins the Millie Fox Stakes
Reece Jones (Dark Glitter): “I thought she had it. She has run tremendous. Showed a really nice turn of foot. Just fell short.”
Zac Lloyd (Scarlet Oak): “I thought I was the winner at the top of the straight but peaked the last 100m. Will take good benefit out of it.”
Tyler Schiller (Makarena): “I thought she was great first up. Just had to do a bit too much work from the gate.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Hinged): “I thought she ran well. She got out and moved well for her. They just sort of left her a little bit when they dashed. I like the way she built through it and her last furlong was her best.”
Ashley Morgan (Our Gold Hope): “I thought she was fantastic. Probably a bit short of her best but quickened up well. Hit the line strongly.”
Alysha Collett (Watch My Girl): “Brave run. I thought she ran terrific.”
Tom Sherry (Not That Easy): “Was OK. Finished off alright.”
